Hello, need a bit of help with my first budget build. Going to use it for some gaming, office work, bit of everything really and some overclocking as well ;) been looking stuff up for days as I'm a complete newbie and here's what I've put together so far:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 285 Dual-X OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £179.99
1 x Samsung 120GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-75E120B/EU £74.99
1 x Samsung 850 EVO Series M.2 120GB SATA 6Gbps Solid State Drive (MZ-N5E120BW) £60.98
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 600w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020060-UK) £60.95
1 x Intel Pentium K Anniversary G3258 Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £59.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Fury Red 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C10 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX318C10FRK2/8) £52.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD10EZEX - OEM ** Single Platter ** HDD £46.99
1 x Zalman T4 Micro-ATX Case USB 3.0 - Black £19.99
1 x Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99
1 x TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless N Nano USB Adapter (TL-WN725N) £7.49
Total : £592.85 (includes shipping : £11.25).

Will also be adding a MSI Z97M-G43 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard and a Cooler Master Hyper 103 43.1 CFM CPU Cooler.

I'm still a bit clueless what slots are needed for what but I checked on that uk pc part picker site it seems to be ok. The thing I'm most worried about is that CPU fan not fitting in to the slim case, it's a bit smaller than the Hyper 212 one which apparently doesn't fit so this one should be ok I hope lol.

I've also added 2 SSDs above but yet to decide which one to go for since there's an M.2 slot on the motherboard which I could use for it instead of having to use more cables and put the SSD somewhere else but then again it's more flexible if I did it that way so I can leave the M.2 slot open for something else? so still looking into that.

Also do I need any other stuff/cables? I feel like I'm missing some important things..

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks :)

Oh yeah guess I'll get some of that thermal compound stuff as well, the monitor and mouse/keyboard I'm going to decide on later.

Hi,

Are you just looking for a tower for your budget? you dont need a copy of windows etc?

Theres much wrong with that spec such as poor quality PSU, overpriced R9 285 (there are £139 models instock)

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

Yeah this is a rough guide, I'm going to buy the parts elsewhere, I thought it would be easier using the OC basket thing.

Ah yeah I was going to get the OEM Windows 7 64 bit for just under £40 on competitor.

The R9 285 I found for competitor price, and is the PSU really that bad, I heard it was pretty decent..which one do you recommend otherwise? I don't want to spend too much on the PSU.

Sorry I should have mentioned I was already set on the case since it was the perfect size to fit under my desk :P There's not many cases out there with similar width and depth :/

I was thinking of only using the SSD for the OS and programs that I frequently use and have the SATA drive for games and media. I think I'll use up the memory quick..is it a big advantage having everything on SSD?

Wow, it's been a few years since I properly PC gamed, I will be playing mostly the last 5 years or so games since I've missed out on a lot but I'll be checking out upcoming games as well. I used to be happy playing Fallout 3 on lowish settings on my laptop so I'm not that bothered about the extra speed and it is pretty pricey as well. Hmm I will have to rethink this over and get back to it later, thanks for the help :)
