Evening everyone new member and new OC here.

I'm building a new PC with an ABIT IP35 Pro running Core2Duo E6600 which i'd like to OC to 3.2ghz with a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro HS however i'm stumped on case cooling. I don't know wether to go with manual fan controller or get a fan that does it automatically also I understand the auto ones can only be used as exhaust is this correct? Also i've seen ones that have a switch on them but if manual is the way to go i'd like it to be controlled by fan controller that can go in a bay. The case will already have a fan on the side how many more would I need? I'm looking to spend £10 max per fan if I need 3 more. Or should I just get an ABIT guru to control them? I'm so confused please help.

Firstly autos ones can be used on any fan not just on exhaust. Just think of the auto ones like the Mcubed T balancer BigNG as just a better version of a manual one as depending on ur temps the fans speed will be raised or lowered due to the change. I have a BigNG and have to say one of the best buys ive done as its so quiet and cool its crazy.

Firstly what case do u have ? Pretty much any good case cooling starts with a good case. What ur looking for is at the very minimum is one fan for an exhaust and one intake (120mm fans a must). To be honest though it sounds like u a very standard case u will really struggle to get a high overclock if ur case is terrible at cooling in the first place.

In terms of fans NOCTUA, Sharkoon and Scythe are really the best fan makes. Pretty much noctua and scythe are the quieters one and sharkoon move a little more air. However as ur attaching ur fans to a controller it might be better to get a fan that has a standard of around 1000rpm reason why is a fan controller only lowers the rpm so sometimes u actually want ur pc to be a little noisy if ur comp is really working hard.

Thanks for the advice much appriciated, the case I'm ashamed to say was chosen on asthetics rather quality/cooling ability, although that said I haven't acutally brought it yet so i'm open to suggestions if you have any i'm on a bit of a tight budget though and I would like purspex side.

thanks

everything depends on the case so buy as good as you can afford espaicially for things like gfx as they can get especially hot with standard cooling in a confind space they can kill evrything off with heat

Yea a good start is to begin with is getting a aluminium case (are exceptions). Along with this u also are looking for a case that uses 120mm fans. but until i know how much cash u want to spend on the case i cant really make a suggestion as there are too many to list.

I can only afford upto £50 I know it's not much. That's minus the pus as I factored another £40-50 for that.

Well for 50 quid u dont have a lot of options but a Antec 300

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-101-AN&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=160

Other option for that kinda price is Thermaltake Mambo and soprano.
Reason why u need this kinda case is simply due to airflow being so important when overclocking as stale air can be very dangerous (just gets hotter and hotter).

Yea that coolermaster isn't bad just remenber that u wont be able to overclock as much if ur case doesnt provide enough airflow and some are known to even overheat systems even with stock cooling.

ok i've got it down to

Coolermaster Black Elite 330
Thermaltake Soprano

Get you votes in, would the stock cooling in the Soprano but sufficient for the OC I want to achieve?

I have a coolermaster elite 335 and it's great for cooling, it can take 2 120mm fans as standard (1 intake and 1 exhaust) but I have 3 120mm fans and 2 80mm fans on mine without much effort, and my temps never go above 45 with an overclocked amd 7750 (3.15Ghz) at 100% load.

Thanks for the info I am swaying towards the CM 335 at the moment as I think the door on the TT would be a pain if I had a fan controller etc.

Also I see lots of good reviews about the Antec 300 any thought on this? oh god I never knew it would be so hard ha!

Hey Denrok,

the Antec 300 is a brilliant case, I actually downgraded from an Antec P182 to the 300 and think I made the right choice.

Thermally advantaged is what you want first as an overclocker, aesthetics come second, in an ideal world you can have both!

Having the PSU on the bottom is neat, having one 140mm fan (with the option of a second 120mm) right next to the overclocked CPU is neat, having two *filtered* 120mm intake fans is neat! :D

ANTEC Three Hundred

Would be the antec 300 for me but then hey i never bought a case that cheap for a overclocked rig. Think my cheapest case ive bought for oc so far is a gigabyte 3d aurora (which i had to mod to actually get decent temps).

But then again im about to spend 200 quid on the lian li V2110B so i have the advantage of both looks and cooling :D but then i think u get what u pay for. Personnally for me i always try to get a aluminium case as i dont have a strong enough back to carry a steel case (hehe can pick up my aluminium case with just one hand :D)

A little late, but another vote for the 300. :D

I like the understated look, and the facilities it offers, having only had pre-builts beforehand, the fact that the sides come off with thumbscrews was a novelty. :o

When I got mine for my first build I found it very easy to work with, although I did change the standard fans, which have 3 fixed speeds, to Yate Loons, to give me better control over the speeds.

I'm thinking about having 2 sharkoon 1000 120mm blue at the front does anyone have any sugestions for the rear? Should I get another for for that or would LED on the rear as well be overkill? What would I need for exhaust? 1? 2? 120mm? 140mm?

I have mine set up with the two front 120mm fans as inlets, and the rear 120mm, and top 140mm as exhausts. I am not using the side vent, which is designed to blow air onto the GPU as far as I know. I'm not altogether happy with my temps though, but I think it just requires some experimentation with the fan speeds to get the throughflow correct.
