Hi guys,

I've just ordered the above mb and processor and i've been assured this should be an easy overclock to get to 3ghz using a Coolermaster Hyper TX 2 CPU Cooler.

I've read the beginners guide so understand the process and the testing of system stability but before i dive in and get it clocked I was wondering if there is anything I should be aware of with tis combination?

I'm a little nervous about getting it wrong so any advice is apreciated!

When it all comes take your time building it up and routing the cables for optimum airflow. Update the bios to the latest version and then clear the cmos. Set your boot order etc in the bios and then install your OS and make sure everything works at stock. Don't forget to manually set the required voltage and timings for the memory. When you first go to clock it you will enter the bios and see a lack of options. Don't panic. For some reason Gigabyte insists you hit Ctrl+F1 to bring up the advanced menu.

It's just a balance of temps, fsb and voltage. If you increase the voltage the temps rise a bit for each increase. Just keep checking in between clocks. There are a couple of ways to go for it, either 9x333 or 8x375 neither of which will stress the memory. 8x375 would be better as the quads love the higher memory bandwidth. You should be able to manage 3Ghz with around 1.3v vcore or less. Take it gradually (although i usually go for it straight away) and use prime to test for stability and core temp to monitor temps. If you get stuck there are plenty of us here to help. ;)

i've no experience with the Q6600 but in general theres noot to be nervous about just dont go mad with the voltage and keep an eye on temps simple, you'll be fine :D
