Honest critique time, do not take this as offensive, it is constructive critique to help you improve your technique.
I like the way the fine threads of the web have been picked up, but the spider is overexposed and blown out so it ruins the whole purpose of seeing the web imo.
The background is a little distracting, but it could be worse, lens flare is again, distracting.
For a first shot with a DSLR it's good that you got the web in focus and this is a good example of learning about DoF (depth of field) I look forward to seeing more pictures from you
unfortunately he's right I went and tried my hand at my first airshow the other week, and out of the approx. 1,000 photo's I took, I'm happy with half a dozen and satisfied with 10-20.
as time goes by the bin rate goes down, but at the moment at the moment I learnt I royally suck at shooting aircraft,
for shooting something that small at the full extent of the zoom a tripod will make it easier to get a sharp image than hand holding
Looking at that web I would just like to say you have probably found the laziest and most inept spider in the country, I mean how does it expect to catch anything with that effort? I will however give it the benefit of the doubt and assume you took the pic just after it had started.
