Hi there guys, been lurking for a while tryin to make sense of whats what on the market now and still havent got a clue what works with what for best performance.
First of I used to be content with playing retro games and games from the early to mid 2000's on my laptop whilst at base and then having my up-to-date gaming fix on my xbox360 when at home, but now this is my only source of gaming it is not stimulating my gaming needs due to the lack of games on the console.
The games I play on xbox are limited to Battlefield 3, Forza 4, Fifa 2013 and Skyrim. 80% of my time spent on Battlefield as I'm an ex-solider and always a big war game fan. And due to there being next to no multi-player support on Operation Flashpoint i'm not left with much other choice.
My Scenario: Like i said the xbox isnt giving me the gaming experience I want anymore and my laptop has well and truely bit the dust now and is fit for the bin.
So, I want to look into building my own rig, for most part gaming, a fair bit of internet browsing ie. research, forums, streaming videos etc, no downloading of music or anything that can attract virus's in mass numbers as i'm sick of wiping my system and having to start again every 2 months.
The games that I'm looking to play are ARMA 2 (and 3 when it launches) the DayZ mod for ARMA 2 and i know that this series is a very cpu demanding game.
I basically am looking to build a system from scratch that will play ARMA 2 on the highest settings as it is an older game now, and be able to also play any new tittles that are out or coming out in the next year on a higher settings as possible for my budget.
My budget ideally is around £800 all-in... and for this i require everything apart from a monitor and speaker system, my plan is to run it through my Sony 32" tv which runs at 1080i (as it is old and 1080p didnt exist when i bought it) and for the sound i have a sony home theatre system linked up to the tv which plays in full 5.1 via optical output.
so HDMI out put on the graphics and optical output is a must for me.
What would you more knowledgable folk reccomend for my build, as i said i require everything, complete rig, OS, keyboard and mouse, and micro phone/headset for team speaking (one that is xbox360 compatible would be ideal as i need to replace mine today anyway)
My budget is not fixed at £800 but that is a ball park figure of what i want to spend not what i can spend.
Also another thing to note is that I dont want any fancy space ship looking case with led lights all over it, just something plain, simple and practical that serves its purpose and possibly looks quite sleek and elegant but as it is a case i dont want to spend over the odds on one.
Thanks for any advice folks
