Newbie, Gaming CPU/Mobo Combo

I am looking for a Gaming setup, should I got AMD or Intel. I have a budget of about £200 for the CPU and Motherboard/RAM. My friend just built an Intel Q6600 Quad with an Asus Board, but are there any AMD combos that would be similar in performance for less. I will probably be running an nvidia 9800GT card for gfx.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Add a bit more into your graphics budget, think 4850.
