Hi guys,

I'm currently with ADSL24 and paying £30 a month.

I've been having on going issues with this connection ever since they upgraded me to ADSL2+, it seemed prior to this I had a more reliable connection gaming wise. DL speeds I line check at around 10mb and UL 1mb for the pricey sum of £30.. I reckon I could get cheaper elsewhere.

This is where I am confused, if I do line checks at say Sky and Virgin, Sky says I'll have a speed of 6mb odd, whereas Virgin say between 8mb - 13mb. But it doesn't say anywhere on the packages whether this is ADSL or ADSL2+ etc?

I was originally going to move to Sky as it's a lot cheaper but then I didn't know if I was getting ADSL or ADSL2+ service.

Can anyone shed some light? I live in a smallish town so not the best offers are available to me, however if ADSL24 gave me ADSL2+ I presume other ISP's can offer me this?

Also: Sky / Easynet:
Enabled as of 25/06/2010 for LLU operator presence but Sky don't offer me an LLU service or am I getting my wires crossed here?

Thanks

Hmm not sure how virgin will be able to give you 8-13mb, they are not on the LLU list, and there's no cable in your area.

Based purely from the screenshot, Sky would be your best bet if its an LLU package.

LLU is pretty much a prerequisite for ADSL2+ as far as I know.

The service you get is determined by the hardware capabilities inside the exchange. Since your exchange is 21cn wbc checked, it should be ADSL2+ enabled. Do the samknows check on your address or telephone line, and the adsl tab should give a guestimate of speeds http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_availability.

I am not entirely sure how these things work, but it is possible ADSL24 provide you with a resold BT wholesale package, (using BT equipment at the exchange) but an LLU like sky install their own hardware at the exchange. I would be very surprised if in a switch Sky downgraded you!

I asked if I could have the LLU package to the customer rep and she just said I'm entitled to the Unlimited and the Everyday Liht? Is the LLU package a different one altogether?

No idea, I would think it is, but you would have to ask them, or ask to speak to someone who knows what they are selling!

You can only get the unlimited package on LLU. If you get offered the connect package, that is not LLU and is a truely terrible service.

If you can get the unlimited package, ie LLU, go for it.

Yeh that's probably your best bet - I'm still curious as to how virgin think they can offer more speed:confused:

I think it's because they will use BT's 21CN network... Not 100% though...

Either way, go for Sky Unlimited LLU.

I love the words 21CN ;) its a waste of time from what it was going to be to just being a broadband system (as it didnt work) and all that money went down the drain :( and with it they could have rolled out fibre to everyones home and been finished by now :D

fairly certain those are different options on their LLU service, unlimited is just that unlimited download, everyday light has a download limit of something like 2gb or similar.

sky connect or the virgin setup being offered use BT equipment avoid them at all costs.
