My 16yr old son for Christmas wants a new graphics card. My sons PC has AMD Athlon X4 860 3.7ghz quad core, A88XM-E35 (MS-7721) board, Windows 64 bit ,AMD Radeon R7 200 series, Ram 4037 DDR3. I ordered this PC from Germany for him for last Christmas so no idea if specification is okay. The games he mainly wants to run are "Ark" and "The Isle" both on Steam.
I've bought 16gb (pair of 8gb DDR) memory for him for Christmas.
I've narrowed it down to 2 cards ASUS GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or the ASUS ROG STRIX RX 470 Graphics Card. Which should i go for?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, welcome.
I'm not the most knowledgeable but here is my 2p.

As for those two cards I think most people are going to say the 470. I've heard the 1050Ti Isn't very good. But could be wrong.
Make sure you get an 8192MB card.

I would also vote for the 470. It will last a good few years. I think what may let you down over time is that AMD Athlon chip, but leave that for another upgrade in another year. :)

What exactly is his current card? you say 200 series but which? Because if it's a 290 then he won't so much if any benefit from a 470.

Well he says R7 200 series, which runs up to 370.

Are you set on the Asus? Because MSI are offering 20% cashback on their RX470. Worth considering at least.

On the 4GB model to be precise, not the 8GB, unless things have changed.

That would be my choice. Probably better than the Asus.

May even want to look at the MSI RX480 8GB as that also has cashback and could come out cheaper/same as the Asus RX470 you're looking at.

The RX 470 is the faster of the two. :)
