I'm looking to update my elderly core 2 duo & 4850 4gb system with an oc'd bundle, the krypton sniper i5 coupled with an msi twin frozr 7950. How loud are the k2 coolers in these bundles? Will the 7950 be a good match for this system? I've got a 256gb m4 drive & corsair hx520 psu that I want to salvage from the old system.

The Alpenfohn k2 is perfect. It keeps my 3570k @ 4.5GHz under 60'C for general use (BF3 highest core is 57'C) and even @ 100% fans they really aren't that loud at all, incredibly quiet for running at full whack in fact.

Don't go for the 7970, get the 7950 and clock it to hell and back - You won't see the difference in performance between the two, but your wallet will. Also the 7970s are coming voltage locked more and more now, the 7950s aren't. In all honestly I wouldn't be surprised if a watercooled overclocked with higher voltage would beat an overclocked 7970.

As asked by snips, whats your budget and what do you need? Monitor? Keyboard + mouse? etc... Welcome to OCuK!

edit// as said above, go for the windforce. They're extremely popular in the UK for their amazing cooler and Gigabytes amazing UK RMA and customer service (turnaround is as fast as you'll get).

Thanks for the speedy replies! I'm looking to keep my lian li case, corsair hx520 psu, m4 ssd, monitor keyboard & mouse but replace the major hardware. Hence looking at per overclocked bundles - the krypton sniper bundle - plus a GPU. It's reassuring to hear that k2 is fairly quiet as that is important to me, same for gpu, is the gigabyte windforce similarly quiet compared to the msi?

I'm also assuming my psu is up to the job?

Yeah that's a perfect set up for you really, although I would ask OCuK to exchange the RAM for something else. If you can pick up the Samsung Green memory you can overclock that to around 2133MHz, maybe even 2400MHz. Go with the 7950 and your rig will be FLYING!

As people say, the 7950 is the best bang for the buck! And yes I second Samsung Green memory, excellent for its price for the performance.
