Greetings all.

Think of me as being a smart monkey, that by some miracle has only just managed to build a PC, so this how it's going to work, I'm going to pull up a few screenshots from my motherboard manufacturer's website (ASUS) with options marked and numbered in red, you point I click.
In essence keep it simple for me (what monkey see, monkey do) and it's for this reason, I won't be downloading the latest drivers direct from Intel website= less margin for error :)

The build:
Asus Maximus V Gene,Samsung green 8GB,Intel core i5-3570k,EVGA GTX 780, Samsung SSD 830 256gb, Win 8.1 pro with media centre

Check list, please correct if mistaken?:
Only options taken from http://www.asus.com/support

Audio: Realtek Audio Driver V6.0.1.7023 for Windows Win8.1 32bit & Win8.1 64bit.(WHQL)
LAN driver: Intel LAN Driver V18.5.54.0 for Windows Win8.1 32bit & Win8.1 64bit---(WHQL).
USB driver under Utilities?: ASUS USB 3.0 Boost V1.05.15for Windows 8.1 32bit & 64bit.

Which leaves me with the Chipset drivers and SATA drivers pictured below:

Chipset Option 1 2 or both?
Do I need a Management Engine Interface? whatever that is, I've Googled it am none the wiser, I take it that Intel Chipset Driver V9.4.0.1026 is the one I'm looking for?

SATA: Option 1 2 or both?
Intel Smart Connect Technology Software WTF? more stuff that makes my headache:confused: Option 2 Intel AHCI/RAID Driver Path for Windows Win8.1 32bit & Win8.1 64bit?

Just to muddy the waters a bit more, before updating to 8.1 from win 8, I installed this chipset driver ntel Z77 Chipset V9.4.0.1026 for Windows 8 32&64bit. do I need to uninstall it or can I simply overwrite it with the Windows 8.1 version?

Thanks for reading, I know you all probably have better ways of wasting time at this festive time, and I'm all the more appreciative of any help you might give.

The management engine provides software control over fans, power saving etc on your mobo. I'd personally just use the intel chipset drivers.

As for the SATA, I believe number 2 will be fine.

Chipset drivers will just overwrite if newer, looks like both your current version and the one you want to download are the same version - can't see any harm running the installer though if you want to be sure.

If you don't keep the computer in standby, then the intel smart connect technology software isn't necessary and has nothing to do with SATA.

My thanks zola25 and demonix for your swift and helpful input, I've downloaded my drivers including the bellow:
Intel AHCI/RAID Driver Path for Windows Win8.1 32bit & Win8.1 64bit.
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver software V12.8.0.1016 for Windows Win8.1 64bit---(WHQL).
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver software V12.8.0.1016 for Windows Win8.1 32bit---(WHQL).
It now resides in my startup try on every boot (Intel@ Rapid storage technology), is this a good thing? as something that has no apparent purpose, I installed what I thought to be the driver via a unzipped folder (Intel_RAID_Win8-1_VER12801016) Intel-install-ASUS setup and went through setup wizard was this correct?
