Hi all

im building a pc as you have guessed built many before and never had any issues except this one

The fan on the CPU will not power up everything else does other fans, cd, etc.

However this does have a floppy drive in it and the light just stays on. The drive works fine on another machine so im a bit stuck

a friend order all the parts just was not confident enough to put it together here is what he ordered:

Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H 880G Socket AM3 8 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard
AMD Athlon II X2 255 3.1GHz Socket AM3 2MB Cache Retail Box Processor
Sumvision 450W
2 x Kingston 2GB DDR3 1066MHz i5 Memory Module
Western Digital WD3200AAKS 320GB SATAII

I hope some one can help

Chris

Welcome to the Forums.

Check the CPU power cord isn't caught up in the fan and the fan spins freely. This has happened to many times. It won't spin if there's is an obstruction.

The light on the floppy drive suggests the power connector is the wrong way round.

Attach another fan, not necessarily a HSF, to the CPU_FAN header. If that works then it looks like a faulty HSF, if it doesn't it could be a faulty CPU-FAN header..

Alternatively, you could attach the suspected CPU HSF to SYS_FAN header. If that works, then you could have a fault on the CPU-FAN header, if does work, then faulty HSF.

Have you connected the supplementary CPU EPS12V connector power cable?
