hi all
as a newbie i like to thank you all in advance for any advice given
my question is i got a intell quad q9550,asus maximus formula ii 775 mobo i think thats what yous lot call them,4 gig ocz memory 1066,h70 water cooler, shappire 5870 1gig card and 700 watt tagon psu,300 raptor hd.
what i want to ask is what's the most o/c speed this chip will go?
at the moment i have used the asus a1 suite to o/c from 2.83 stock to 3.5
but if am right this chip could go a bit higher on the set up i got.
like many at the moment money is tight so an up grade would be out of question untill funds comes along.
if anyone got any info on how to o/c this up a bit would be very welcome
when i got this set up over a year ago it seem fast then but now it seems abit slow during game play ie bfc2.
and with the new bf3 and co coming out soon am not going to get a look in with these 4.4gig and co
so help is needed to get this rig to the best i can get it
many thanks

Well Q9550's OCs varies from the stepping of the CPU and motherboard. The Q9550 has 2 steppings a C0 Stepping and an E0 Stepping. You could check by downloading CPUZ.

E0 Stepping tends to clock higher compared to the C0 ones. Most likely you'll be able to hit 3.8-4GHz with the right motherboard. You've got a pretty high end motherboard so I don't see any problems OCing your CPU abit further.

Although OCing from 3.5 to around 4GHz, I woundn't expect expect large gains from it.

Also, try checking if your OC is stable and defrag your HDD.

the oc seem to be stable been on 3.5 now for almost a year and i always do a monthly defrag.
just down loaded cpuz and how do i insert the results on here to so yous?

On the last tab of CPU Z, there's a Validation button. Click that and it should generate a link of your CPUZ details.

From that, I think getting to 3.8 or 4GHz shouldn't be impossible.

You could try OCing it abit further. I'd also recommend turning off SpeedStep and C1E while your on the BIOS.

thanks for your reply
but as far as using the motherboard a1 suite (asus) i took it to the max (crazy) in which it have gave me the 3.5 speed.but after that i got no clue thats the highest in the setting
i know how to get into the bios but that it,we all have to learn some time.
as to speedstep and c1e you got me on that?
thanks

You could try this settings

Under Ai Tweaker in BIOS

Ai Tuner: Manual
CPU Ratio: 9
FSB: Here start with 400
FSB Strap: Auto
DRAM Freq: Set it to the lowest value

CAS Latency: 5
DRAM RAS to CAS: 5
DRAM RAS Precharge: 5
DRAM RAS Activate Precha: 15

Load Line Calibration: Enabled
CPU Voltage 1.425
DRAM Voltage: 2.10
NB: 1.16

Under Advaced Tab

CPU Features

SPeedStep: Disbabled
C1e: Disabled

Exit then save.

Increase the FSB little by little. Make your target to like 445 FSB. With the x9 multiplier it should give you 4GHz
