Newbie needs help - Upgrade

Hi All

Im out of touch so pls bear with me

. I have just bought some new upgrade bits and bobs (a new system).

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Samsung SpinPoint T HD321KJ 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

Add old components

Sapphire X1900XT 512mb PCI-E Graphics Card
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Professional 7.1 Soundcard
Hiper HPU-4M580 Type R 580W
Soprano Case

I think I have the bones of a good system now. What do you think?

Now, I've never got in to overclocking, I dont understand latency settings in RAM and I dont understand RAID either. Please could some kind sole help me set this rig up to a machine geared for gaming?

First step would be to build it and install the OS, or have you done that?

done that. Have installed XP rather than buy Vista.

After buying all those other parts, you should really look at buying a better power supply like the Corsair HX 520W.

Then read the sticky in the overclocking board to get a good idea and what to do next.

Might be handy to start in the Overclocking forum to, there's lots of posts regarding overclocking core2duo's..... just a matter of sitting down a having a read.

It can be quite specific to each board, so handy if you find someone else using the same board as they might be able to post what settings do and don't work for them.

Overclocking takes time and patience though, have a read through the stickies first, then just post when you get stuck.
