Hi,

I've just purchased a new PC...Well the components anyways!

AM2 5200+, Abit KN9 SLi, EVGA 7950 KO, SATA WD HDD, Zalman CPU Fame, Hiper 580W PSU!

Put the whole thing together but it wont power up! The motherboard lights come one, then I press the power button...everything seems to fire up for about 1second the everything powers down again! I have noticed that the motherboard has 2 LEDs on when before I hit the power button, but once I press the power button only on stays on!

Can anyone help? Anyone know what might be wrong?

Thanks,
Tom

Check that you do not have a short on the board. You may have left one of the standoff in when fitting the board. Reset the cpu, ensure that the heat sink is fitted correctly. Try booting with bare essentials to pass post(CPU,ram,Graphics). If using two sticks of ram only put one in for the time being. If the system will pass post with only these three things in then start to add your HDD, then dvd drives.

Also check you have a fan plugged into the "CPU Fan" header on the mobo.
Try resetting CMOS. (Jumper somewhere, will be fairly clear in manual)
Tried the PSU from your old PC?

Hi,

I get the same problem even with the motherboard out of the cae and on an antistatic bag!

The PSU is fine as it has been tested on my old pc! The system doesnt even want to do anything when I just plug the power supply into the mobo!

Does this seem like a dead motherboard?

Sounds like a BIOS config problem to me, probably RAM settings. As suggested above try resetting the BIOS via the jumper. Does it allow you to enter the BIOS or does it power down before you get there? if yes try a minimalist install, 1x stick of RAM 1x optical 1xhdd.

Bleedin pooters :(

single stick of ram, cpu, cpu fan, psu, graphics card - it's really turn on as such, the power runs through the board for about a second then thats it!

Ive noticed 2 LED's on the MoBo, both are on when i turn the psu on...then i hit the power switch, computer flickers on and then off and only one LED remains!

psu deffo works as i tested it with my old computer, the psu from the old computer also doesnt power the new pc!

Any Ideas?...Does the board support the CPU? running 5200+ with the Abit KN9 SLi!

Cheers!

erm is the ram wanting more voltage than its getting from the motherboard, I've read that a few times. try it with some old ram.. good luck

I'll give that ago!

Just to let you know the ram am using is Geil DDR2 PC-6400!

In the mean time anymore help would be great! Thanks in advance!

I've got a feelng the motherboard is knackered...any ideas how i'd eliminate all other components and find out whats broken?...

Problem is i dont have another motherboard to test, the PSU seems fine, the psu from my old comp doesnt boot the new mobo either!

Finding a faulty part is always a process of illimination, as you don't have another motherboard then you will have to test all the other parts if possible. The RAM g/card processor ect don't worry about the drives.
Have you got access to a pc that you can test all the parts in? In the motherboard handbook what does it say about the LED's? It can be very akward testing bits without a second pc. Have a really good look at the handbook that came with the motherboard, you might spot something you have missed before.
