Newbie OSX User - Installing Applications

Can anyone answer this please:

Not used OSX for long so still VERY new to it, but I've noticed that when I drag'n'drop a program into my Applications Folder to install it, the icon appears like this:

scaled.php

(Look at DropBox).

It's like that for a while, sometimes hours, sometimes day, then it just 'changes' to the proper icon.

Look into the Applications Folder, the icon is fine.
 
Well, for "DropBox" for example, it just said something like "Drag [icon] to [icon]*"

*Showed a picture of the Applications Folder Icon.

So I did that, it all installed, said the congratulations etc, etc and works fine.

I'm unmounted the DMG, the "DropBox" icon is showing perfectly in the Applications 'Folder', but just shows the icon in the screenshot with a line through it.

I've had this a few times, it does just go away, just seems rather weird that's all.
