Hello,

A few days on this forum and i have been converted into wanting to experiment with overclocking, so i was after advice!
I am not after the *hows* - I realise there are useful walkthroughs in these forums, and i will definately use them :-). Basically i want to try my first overclock on a low spec machine, that way any mistakes wont cost me a bomb. If successful, i would give/sell it to a friend, or maybe use myself in another room.
So i am after suggestions for a cheap chip that is known to be overclockable/the fan to buy/the motherboard to buy/ram to buy.
-CPU - Todays equivalent to what an athlon 1300 (it was duron or thunderbird, cant really remember!)was 5 years ago (i believe it had just gone budget when i bought it). (If possible could you compare athlon 1300 to the suggested chip? I could not find athlon 1300 on cpu performance benchmarks that i look at).
-I intend to use 512mb ram.I understand i cant get value ram - i must get better ram with their covers.
-Motherboards-I dont understand the main differences in motherboards (for overclocking). I realise different boards have different features eg audio, crossfire.

Hopefully after this i could move on to bigger fish :-)

Any weblinks i would find useful too would be great. Finally, thanks for reading this e-mail, and if i have missed a similar post in these forums, i apoligise.

Regards,

Perplex
