Newbie Q, access Linux (Ubuntu?)from XP

Hi, sorry for the newbie questions, but what would I use to be able to remotely login and access an Ubuntu installation on a separate server?

Basically I am at Uni, wanting to play with Linux and have a separate pc not doing anything.

Can I get a NVC client for XP and Linux, install them and do it that way?

They will be connected together via a router/switch I have in my room.

Any thoughts would be brilliant cheers.

Use ssh. If you want graphical stuff X forwarding with SSH may suit you, or VNC.
