NEWBIE Q: What would you choose

a) HP Pavilion G6061EA Laptop 15" @£350
Processor - AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK57 @ 1.9ghz
NVIDIA GeForce 7000M 336MB

or

b) Acer Aspire 7720 Gemstone Laptop LX.AML0X.213 17" @£399
Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 @ 1.66 ghz
Intel GMA X3100 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 4.0 358MB

Which laptop is better?
Which cpu/cache is better?
Which Laptop would you choose? A or B

Is this a good laptop for internet usage / video conferencing /chat etc... It won't be used for games but need a powerful /fast laptop for watching movies etc..

my budget is extremely limited to £350-400 , prefer a 17"

If 17" is important to you then it seems pretty straightforward. If you want the laptop for hardcore processing then the Core2Duo will eat the Turion for beakfast, lunch and dinner. If it's just general stuff then you probably wouldn't notice the difference as the AMD mobile CPUs are still pretty quick CPUs. Neither will be much good for gaming unfortunately and in both cases those graphics RAM figures are almost certainly shared system RAM, so the total system RAM is a big factor eg. if one only comes with 1Gb RAM then taking 300Mb for the graphics will slow the system down massively overall.

I had a very quick look and I found this acer system for £399 Incl. VAT & delivery.

Acer Aspire 7720-3A2G12Mi Gemstone Notebook
Intel Core 2 Duo (T5450) 1.66 GHz Processor
Memory Size: 2048 MB
120 GB Hard Disk Drive
17 Inch WXGA Crystalbrite TFT Screen
Integrated CrystalEye webcam
DVD Super Multi Drive
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
HD3650 with 512Mb dedicated Video RAM

An HD3650 still isn't going to set the world alight for gaming, but at least it's a GPU with dedicated RAM.

If you could stretch to £450 then the 7720G has an 8400GS and a faster CPU.

Acer Aspire AS7720G-5A2G16Mi Gemstone Notebook
Intel Core 2 Duo (T5500) 1.66 GHz Processor with 667 MHz FSB and 2048 KB L2 Cache
17 inch WXGA+ (1440 x 900) TFT display
Integrated CrystalEye webcam
160 GB Hard Disk Drive
Memory Size: 2048 MB
DVD Super Multi Drive
Nvidia GeForce Go 8400M GS Graphics
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition

WJA96, both of these specs are very good, but I am unable to find the spec on the world wide web when conducting a search.

much appreciated, if you can help.

No, I can't tell you and you can't ask - forum rules. Sorry. You might want to edit/delete your post to avoid a short holiday if a Don sees it.

Good Spec Value for Money ?

Is this a good spec for around £380 using the latest Santa Rosa Chips.

I have no ideas regarding laptops. - If I wanted to upgrade to a dedicated 512 gfx card -- will it cost me a fortune?
