Newbie question about retail CPU & thermal compound

Is it necessary for me to buy extra thermal compound if I have the retail version CPU box? I'm a newbie .....thx

Sink should come with its own thermal interface material, usually applied already, only good for one install though.

I would still recommend you buy some Artic Silver 5, tis the dog balls

And shoudl get you 3-5 degree drop in temp, but clear off the crappy pink gunk form ** retail heatsink

The retail HSF I got with a recent retail E6600 had it pre-applied (and it looked just like Arctic Silver anyway). I tested it and then with AS5 and found no real difference so I would say give it a go.

I always use the stuff which comes with the retail packaging. Have overclocked my Athlon 64 3200 to 2.4Ghz fine using it.
