Hi all, hope you people can enlighten me
I have noticed while browsing the ocuk shop that some motherboards say they support DDRII 533/667/800 types of ram. However when i look on the shop under DDRII ram there are 4 options DDRII PC2-4200, 5300, 6400, 8500+
Therefore which types of ram would fit in the board. Do the 533/667 relate to the timings and then the 4200 etc relate to the speed? Just on some of the ram it says the 5300 bit for example but theres no indication of whetehr its 533/667 or 800
Thanks

When DDR first came out for Memory (was out before on graphics cards) it had some legal matter with naming as of some patent so DDR266 which ran at 133mhz x2 = 266mhz had 2.1GHZ of bandwidth so they called it PC2100, then same with DDR333, called it PC2700, same with DDR400, called it PC3200.

Now for DDR2 its :

PC4200 is 533mhz

PC5300 is 667mhz

PC6400 is 800mhz

PC8500 is 1066mhz

The last 2 are most common for new mobos/cpu use.

Following on from the original post, if you buy a DDR3 m/board can you install DDR2 RAM on it or must you install DDR3 RAM?

Skittle

Only DDR3 will fit a DDR3 based board.

Tho some of the new P35 based boards have both DDR2 and DDR3 slots (Four DDR2 and two DDR3 slots).
