Hey guys, I'm looking into getting some new RAM as mine is pretty outdated (very outdated, actually)...

What is some great RAM that is low profile, not too costly (£100 limit)?

I would like to get 2x8 preferably as it would be easier to upgrade in the future to 4x8.

Thanks for your help :)

When you say it's very outdated is it DDR3?

What processor and motherboard do you have?

What version of Windows do you have and is it 32 bit or 64 bit?

There are several 2x8GB kits which will do the job:

Corsair Dominator 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

Corsair XMS3 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

GeIL EVO Corsa 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

Kingston Blu 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

If you have a large CPU cooler then you're best forgetting about the Corsair Dominator and the GeIL EVO as they might not fit underneath.

You need a 64 bit operating system to use more than 4GB.

If you have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit then it can only use 16GB. You need the 64 bit Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate editions to use more than that.

I think the Corsair's are what I'll go for, I had looked at those previously but weren't certain, and yeah I've got the Noctua CPU cooler, so low profile is probably necessary. Thanks for your help :D

Can i nip in and ask for recommendation for 8gig of DDR3, low profile?

Can i use this: DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz in a motherboard that only supports 1333MHz.

Reason i ask is that sometime in the future i will be changing mobo anyway and could do with more ram now.

This is the board i will be buying in a couple of months: Gigabyte Z77M-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard [GA-Z77M-D3H]
