Well guys, im not very familiar with RAM or how the timings and Mhtz and stuff work, i just have an idea of what is a good brand and how much is needed to run a certain game at a steady pace.
Anyway my question is quiet a silly one really, i have got 2 1GB sticks of RAM on each of them it says 400Mhtz, so does this mean when i put both of them into my motherbaord, i should get a speed of 400Mhtz? or is it halfed to 200Mhtz? because CPU tells me i am getting a speed of 200Mhtz off my 2 400Mhtz sticks, i would like them to run abit faster if possible to be honest, is there anyway i can do this?
My motherboard is a Asus A8R32-MVP DELUXE.
Thanks guys.

i am assuming that the motherboard is a 939 amd socket.

how about you give us a bit more information, like what type of ram you have, model and so on, and what processor you have.

these would help us in deciding how much you can overclock.

thing is supposing your cpu is marked to run at 2000mhz, and the default ram speed for amd systems are 200mhz (x2 = 400mhz ie dual Chanel)

so 200 mhz x 10 multiplier on the cpu gives 2000mhz. Now if you run your ram in sync ie 1:1 ratio then by overclocking the ram you are really overclocking the cpu speed. so 210mhz on the ram gives you 2100mhz on the cpu.

therefor you really need to know if you ram can be overclocked to what speed and at what timing. Most rams can be overclocked only if you slack the cas timings and usually be adding some voltage.

you can also use a ratio to overclock your cpu without overclocking the ram on amd systems but i would advise you to look it up in the sticky in the overclocking section of the forum.

200MHz frequency is about right because that means its running at 400MHz Dual Channel...
With data being transferred 8 bytes at a time DDR RAM gives a transfer rate of (memory bus clock rate) × 2 (for dual rate) × 8 (number of bytes transferred)
So, 200 x 2 = 400MHz x 8 = 3.200 GByte/s bandwidth (PC3200) :cool:

This guide might also be usefull :)

CPU = AMD 64 3700+
RAM = Corsair XMS 2x 1GB 3200PT
Motherboard = Asus A8R32-MVP

not sure what your ram is capable of, but by the looks of it is not much specially on a 1:1 divider unless maybe you slacken the timing's but that means you have to experiment with them.

you are gonna have to run a divider to keep the ram at stock 200mhz.

if your chip is a 939 3700+ then you can most probably get anything up to 2.9ghz out of it.

good luck with that.
