Hi completed my cbt a while ago and am gonna be riding a L plated 125 for a while before tests im wondering other than a helmet +gloves+boots what other gear should i get and how much should i spend on it as a newbie ?

textile trousers and a thermal neck tube for the colder half of the year makes biking much more comfortable

Id agree with Sam, steer clear of the really cheap stuff, you will only end up buying again later down the line like i did if you go to cheap.
The Key thing is that what ever you get, is that your comfortable wearing it, as being un-comfy in the gear will drive you nuts.

Bare minimum stuff most would say is:
Helmet
Jacket (textile/leather)
Gloves (textile/leather)
Trousers (be it leathers/textile/kevlar jeans)
Boots (urban/touring/full)

Extra's:
Thermal neck tube / balaclava like dan said, is'nt a must, but is a nice extra, you can be as cosy as a bug in a rug, but if your necks open to the elements it can make a ride not so enjoyable.
If some of the stuff you decide on is'nt to weather proof, a 1 peice rain suit i would say is a good extra to consider, they just slip over what you normall wear.

As we're coming up to winter, I'd suggest getting textile clothing as you'll most likely struggle with leathers once the temperature starts dropping.
For neck tubes etc, look in bike magazines, you'll probably find they'll start offering them in the coming issues as we're getting close to winter. I've never actually bought a neck tube individually, it has always been a free-bes.
I always like wearing thin under gloves as well, they just keep an extra layer of warmth in your hands. Having freezing cold hands is one of the worst experiences I have found!

It's a shame Frank T went under, their leathers were often far better designed for road usage than stuff like alpine stars & dainese.

I have FT XTI-2 leathers, by far the best ones I have ever come across for road riding, I practically have zero issues with cold weather & they are pretty good in 30c summer heat too. Brilliant 4 layer stitching on some parts, although they benefit a lot from extra hip armour & a back protector in the compartment provided in the jacket.

I think it might have been a ride magazine test that swayed me, they scored highest for stitch strength getting a maximum of 20/20 iirc.

I think spine protector has yet to be mentioned. In-jacket ones will be less spine-savey than standalone versions.

Risk management yo.

Buy some Thermals then you won't have to put as many clothes on under your gear.

If I was you I'd buy a textile jacket with built in armour & a decent set of waterproof trousers. Neck tubes are a must have in winter.
