Hi Guys, thought I would join the forums as I have just been introduced to this website as well as building pcs.
Little bit about myself....
I currently work as a freelance illustrator and as a tech support agent for a well known ISP (cannot name due to company policies). My background is with Macs *be kind* as I have always found their OS and components reliable and long lasting. I did have bad experience with the Windows OS many years ago during the start of college and lost a lot of work many times but luckily backed up my files after the first instance. However, losing an in-progress photoshop illustration nudged me towards the mac systems and as of yet have had no problems, crashes or random errors since. I do find the OS much more user friendly than Windows and have less to worry about when I click save on a large art piece. This is my personal opinion and in no means am I trying to big up apple lol.
Anyway, I am here because as we all know, Macs have no games. I play Starcraft2, WoW and would like to get into the new Star Wars mmo as well as Skyrim etc. and while SC2 and WoW do play on my macs the settings are usually set to low to get a decent 20-40FPS (still not too bad on a 7 year old imac and a 5 year old Powerbook).
I was looking to purchase another laptop just to keep up to date with these games and to play new releases but as my macs run my adobe stuff fine I thought I would look at for a machine to purely game on while keeping my macs separate for my work. I initally looked at alienware as I am a newb who didnt know any better...but a friend insisted that I could build a better machine with better specs for less and learn something in the process. He also insisted that I went for a tower rather than a laptop for obvious reasons.
So here I am...
I have already sort of planned out the type of machine I want and have relied on google for a lot of answers regarding parts. My friend has offered to help me build it as he has built his own but I would like to learn myself rather than let him to all the work. I would appreciate it a lot if there are some people out there who would be willing to answer some of my questions and be patient with me xD I am looking to build it bit by bit each pay-day and the obvious place to start is with the chasis.
I was interested in the coolermaster nvidia editions but can't find them anywhere really. I do however, really like the NZXT Phantom 410. I watched a few reviews and it seems like a solidly build case which has a lot of options. I am still unsure about what parts are compatible with which case so any help regarding that would be great.
Apologies for the wall of text and thanks for reading!
