hi i have just finished building my new i7 machine which is my first build all has gone perfect.

i have overclocked to 4ghz by just increasing the base clock to 200 mhz and having the vcore at 1.3 and memory at 1.6V all seems ok

my question is do i want speedstep and all the other cpu function turned off in bios as currently i have them all left as the were on default?

once you know your OC is stable, it might be worth trying to enable the powersavong ones, speedstep and cstates to save power

If you want to reach a bit higher with you OC you could enable turboboost but you might need more voltage for this

Have you got hyperthreading enabled?

Personally I leave it all enabled and just disable turbo mode so it doesn't step up the multi a notch and potentially make my system unstable.

There's no real need to disable it - my i7 at 4GHz just steps down to 2.4GHz when idle and ramps up to 4GHz on load so it saves electricity and dissipates less heat when idle. Why wouldn't you want it enabled? :) It doesn't seem to cause a problem with overclocking.
