ok so i will shortly be venturing into my 1st experience at setting up and running a NAS for my home media useage.
now atm if i am getting any new media from the internet for my current server ( Which atm is my MAIN PC ) i would just download it on my main pc then extract it / transfer it to my media hard drive which is on the same pc. however when i start using my dedicated NAS to distribute my media files between my different area's of my house what is the best way to proceed.

1. Download new media from the internet directly onto my NAS and extract it there onto its hard drives.

OR

2. Download new media from the internet to my main pc , then extract it via the network onto the hard drives on my NAS.

OR

3. Download new media from the internet to my main pc , then Copy the compressed files via the network onto the NAS then extract the files onto the hard drives on my NAS.

What does everyone else here do to get their media onto their NAS

have the NAS download whatever it is you're downloading and extract if necessary.

Assuming the NAS is a decent enough one it'll have some sort of download manager.
Its a HP N36L Microserver that i will be using as my NAS , i was gonna try that FreeNAS software , or would i be better putting windows on it , so i can download / extract the files on it ?
as i say this is all totally new to me
