hi guys,

just a quick question.

i have overclocked my q6600 to 3ghz.

i installed real temp on my stock heatsink and my idle temp was 35-40c,55-60c under full load, before i overclocked the proccessor.

so ive changed the heatsink to an akasa ak968 x4,i know these dont have very good reviews but i didnt read them till after i bought it....duh!!!

anyway my idle temp with this on is between 30-40c,45-50c under full load after the overclock.

my question is do you think im safe to push it up some more,or should i just stay with how it is??

would i notice much performance difference if i try to push it to say 3.4 or 3.6ghz??

thanks a lot.

Hi,

If your q6600 is the newer one its safe to push it until you load temps nudge the 70's as far as im aware. If they are 45-50 on load@3ghz , i would estimate that 3.6ghz is achievable!

Try to keep the Vcore low. The lower the Vcore the lower the temps. Fine tuning can have a big impact on temps. Im going to overhaul my overclock once i sort out the cooling.

If you can get it stable at a certain speed push for more find the limit of the CPU (where no matter what you increase in voltages it won't be stable) then just have it under that as long as your temps are fine.

You have quite a bit of headroom, 50c under full load is pretty lower for intel chips. Just remember unless your doing constant encoding using 100% CPU then it doesn't really matter about temps at full load just monitor them whilst your playing games or running high CPU time programs.

my main reason for overclocking is because i do a lot of 3d rendering,to do a 3d render normally takes about 10mins of the proccessor working at 100% load,so i definatley have to keep my eye on the temps.

guys,is there any info at all on the site about overclocking an xfx geforce 8800gt alpha dog edition 1 gb ddr3,im trying to get my renders to proccess as fast as possible with what i have.

current temps of gpu is 54-56c idle, can tell you full load yet as im writing a disk, will be back with full load temps on that.

thanks guys.
