Ok i havent built anything for 3 years and now my asus a7n8x-e + amd have blown , So looking for advice for mobos + cpus
and whats best amd or intel
only have 130 to spend on mobo+amd as will get the other bits later

main requirements are Stability dont have to be ultrafast as nerver overclocked all i do is video editing and satellite programming and mp3 serving in a mirc room the asus a7n8x/e did the job perfect
in the order of importance

2 ide 133 slots
4 raids
2 to 3 pci slots
and a serial port on back (as i do a lot of programming)

been looking at abit kn9 and 3800 so far

would consider a good used a7n8x +3200 chip if anyone has one real cheap gathering dust in there cupboard lol

and thanks for letting me join the forums

I know nothing out of mine will fit in the new setup so need 256 card new memory and 24 pin power supply
Building from start slowly as just lost job
looking at whats good and whats the CR*P to avoid

Not all motherboards need 24 pin, what wattage is your PSU?

Also not sure of the significance of;
and a serial port on back (as i do a lot of programming)

Does it have to be an actual Serial Port or will a USB to serial converter not suffice?

4 Raids? If you have data on a Raid array in your present system I hope it is backed up, it will probably be inaccessible on a new board, even if it has Raid.

Don't be put off by the economy motherboards, I've had experience of a couple of ASRock boards and despite their low price they have been very stable and easy to set up.

:D I didn't notice last night that this was in motherboards, I assumed we were in general hardware.
Also I assumed you were upgrading the whole system, but now I've had some sleep I see you are talking about staying with socketA, yes?

thats the biggest prob as i do have raid 2 hard drives reading as one so i guess better get another a7nx and a 1 500 gig drive just to back up all the data or can i get a board with the same controller as the a7n had
