OK, my first post here! I've done a quick search of the forum and the overall consensus seems to be that the new heavyweight CPU coolers shouldn't cause a problem. However, I need more convincing - I worry a lot
I've just bought a Foxconn MB for my AMD Athlon x2 4600+ CPU, 4GB of OCZ 4-4-4-15 memory and MSI 7600GT graphics card. I'll be overclocking it 'because I can' - I don't honestly need the extra speed, but appreciate very fast system start ups
So, I've bought a Sythe Mine cooler tower. (OK I first bought a Zalman Cu 9500 but it didn't fit LOL).
My concern is that the MINE cooler is quite heavy (much less than the Zalman copper heatsink, but still around 550g IIRC). As the MB will be mounted in a tower case, the stress that this weight must be exerting on the vertically mounted motherboard must be pretty considerable. I can't find a large desktop case anywhere so I have no choice but to continue with the tower case - otherwise I'd just buy the desktop case.
My worry is that the cooler will cause stress fractures in the MB - this cooler doesn't have a back plate but uses the standard AM2 cooler frame. I'd be hugely grateful if someone with a similar setup could confirm that they have no issues with the weight. The case is a purely static affair btw - no transport issues to consider.
Many thanks
