I'm trying to get ubuntu working on a second drive on my pc. It's an X2 4400 with 1Gb. I have a Dlink 504 router that does dhcp.
I can connect to these here forums OK but I can't get google or stanford.edu, EOC works but takes absolutely ages to load a page. I have tried to add my ISP's DNS server to the tab in network settings but it doesn't stay there, every time I look at it again it has gone away again.
The same router with the same PC has no troubles when it running W2K :confused:
Help me please!

I've tried the router on auto detect DNS and with it set at my ISP's DNS server, I've tried DHCP and setting the IP's myself. It always works on W2K and never with ubuntu. Do I use the IP of my router in the DNS tab in ubuntu or use the ISP ones? also I still can't get anything else to stay in the DNS list in ubuntu network tab, it always reverts to my routers address. I've even tried running ubuntu on VMware and get the same results.

Edit /etc/resolv.conf and set the ip's to be that of your isps name servers.

Then lock it using chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf That way dhclient won't overwrite it when it aquires a new ip.

Is it possible to do this without using a terminal, I don't really understand what's going on in there yet!

$ sudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf

Got to start sometime!
