Sorry if this is in the wrong section or it has been answered elsewhere...

I am gathering the parts for my first new build, I have changed graphics cards, RAM and popped in a second hard drive before, I have even changed a PSU so figured why not build one from scratch.

However I have never booted up a new build before. I am going to be using Windows 7 as the OS with an i5 2500k and an ASRock Z68 Extreme 4 Gen3 my questions are:

1) When I turn it on will the Mobo recognise the DVD Rom?

2) Assuming it does do I boot from the disk drive first then format the new hard drive or is it better to format a drive first on another machine?

I can't get my head around how Win 7 will install itself on to a new drive that hasn't been formatted.

Thanks in advance ;)

The motherboard will see the dvd drive, you will need to pop into the BIOS and change the boot order.

Win 7 will see the hard drive and format and install from there.
