Need some advice as a complete newby to gaming. Played Spore tonight for first time and enjoyed it but realise that my keyboard is a nightmare to use and I need a new mouse. Have been intending to get the logitech mx518 mouse anyway, but can anyone recommend a keyboard mostly for office use but some gaming?? Or do people go for specific game controllers or something like this:

cheers :)

You do not need anything specific. I use an Apple keyboard (due to its small form) and it works for me for both gaming, editing and office work.

Some of the gaming keyboards are more comfortable but take up a lot of space. I recommend you get a gaming keyboard if you really want one but otherwise just get any keyboard and get used to it unless you want features such as, LED backlit keys or macro functionality.

I have a Razer Deathadder, if your budget for a mouse extends that far, I highly recommend it. Mine is working perfrectly now as of the last firmware update.

The MX518 is also an awesome mouse for the money, so no problem there.

Don't buy a specialised gaming peripheral like the link, nobody really uses them in real life, a minority, as just as good results can be had with a keyboard. I'd say it was more about comfort. I'm using a Logitech G11, and have been very pleased with it. Key action is a lot more defined than what I was used to, but it makes a great gaming keyboard, with loads of options for macros using the G buttons, and media control etc. Any Logitech keyboard in the G range will be your best bet for gaming. Logitech's customer support (which I recently had the pleasure of dealing with) is totally superb, so buy with confidence.

Can't speak for keyboards much but i have been using both the Logitech G11 keyboard and the MX518 mouse for around a year or so now with no problems whatsoever. with the g11 i find the 18 programmable buttons to be excellent for gaming and the mouse is also perfect with its on the fly sensitivity buttons.

Razer also make superb mice. been a while since i had one (the Diamondback) but it never failed and only reason i don't have it now is i "loaned" it to my brother....which ill probably never see again :D

Wow, quick responses!! Thanks everyone, got something to think about now. Will probably go for one of the logitech keyboards, as the old keyboard I'm using at the moment has buttons that stick, and sometimes don't work at all - quite frustrating!!
Any other advice from other forum members ,most appreciated :)

Saitek II or III keyboard, used them the last few years, they're awesome quality and price :) Has really good, well thought out features and great for typing (A Level computing student :P)

Razer diamondback or deathadder re-spawn are great gaming mice, my favourites. (Make sure you treat yourself to a decent mouse pad, you'll notice the difference)
