Okay so i was stuck on a p4 2.6 and a socket 478 motherboard ... it died so i used it as an excuse to upgrade to a better motherboard and more importantly dual core. Though im only 16 and sorta strapped for cash as they say.

I decided to get:

MSI Motherboard socket 775 and pcie x16. model: p4m900m2
2 gig corsair ddr2 ram
8600 gts leadtek
e4400 intel dual core @ 2ghz
apevia x cruiser case

now this i guess is a budget rig right ?

i used my old hdd, 2 dvd drives, and keyboard , mouse etc with this build.

building it was really easy as the motherboard try on the case simply came out and when done you could just screw it back in.

one thing i have to say is i am disapointed with the cpu fan/heatsink design on the s775 or at least the standard one anyway. the wires were a bit of a mess and didnt look as neat as my old s478.

i think the case is great and it has good airflow as there is a fan at the back and on the top blowing hot air out and 2 fans on the front blowing cold air in. (im still looking at water cooling though.)

To cut the story short i finished the build and was outstanded by the performance. for a budget build its great ! plays all the games i have great and super fast compared to the old pentium 4.

for anyones info all high graphics at 1440x900 res:

Counter strike source stress test: 150 fps
Counter strike source ingame: about 70 - 100 fps
Team Fortress 2: 60 - 100fps
Battlefield 2: Constant 60 fps on 64 man server
day of defeat source: 60 - 90 fps
test drive unlimited: about 40 - 60 fps but not totally sure.

using nvidia 163.71 drivers
