Newly computer crashes and shuts down at random.

This little problem of mine has been happening to me since last Saturday, I had got my £400 worth of parts built into a new case but I used graphics card, power supply, two hard drives and DVD drive because I felt like I didn't need to upgrade my GTX560TI and 650wat Corsair PSU, seeing how I've only had the PSU since October in 2011, and the GPU last January...

Anyway, let me explain what happens.

My computer just crashes at random, there's no bluescreen, no error message, the computer will just crash as if it's locks up, the computer keeps running for a couple of minutes then it'll just shut down and I'll have to turn it back on.

The only ever blue screen I got was Bad_Setup_Info.

At first, I thought it had to be one of my older parts, seeing how the RAM, mother, CPU are brand new.

But I decided to run a memtest to see what would happen, the PC crashed again when it got to 50%, so I figured, it might just be buggy RAM, so I took out a stick of the RAM and ran another memtest. Surprisingly it passed the test with no errors so I figured that was the problem. Buuuuut, after booting up the PC it crashes again just as I was about to install Orange Box. Frustrated I decided to try a hard drive test on my 500gb and 1TB hard drive seeing how they're the oldest parts I have.

The test for the 1tb hard drive had came across 17 sectors but had remapped them all before the PC crashed AGAIN during the test. but I was told if you more than 5 bad sectors that HDD is basically screwed, soooo.... Okay, maybe I've found my problem?

So, I take out the 1tb hard drive and have my 500gb hard drive run on it's own, I ran the test again. It got to around 88% with no errors coming before, you guessed it! The PC crashed yet again. But it didn't shut down like it normally would.

So, really. The only two parts I could see being a problem here are the GPU and PSU but I'm not sure cuz the GPU runs games like a breeze and no errors related to my graphics card or drivers come up.

I'm hoping that it isn't my PSU cuz c'mon. Dodgy PSU powering my PC, oh my. D:

But for now, I'm out of options, I have no idea what the problem could be so I'm having to return piece by piece until maybe the problem gets sorted. I'm gonna return the RAM first, seeing how RAM can be the number 1 problem with most PCs but if not I'm gonna have to try sending back my GPU which I should be able to do with no problems but I'm only concerned bout the PSU, cuz my grandfather had bought it and I told him to keep the receipt incase something goes wrong, but I have a feeling he might have thrown it away by now.

So, now. Overclockers Forums, I here to ask for help on what the problem could be, I've been having to use a pink laptop since Sunday, though it isn't a terrible laptop, knowing that I've got a 'powerful' buggy system beside me is just really, really frustrating.

I've been ripping my hair out with this since Saturday, so yea. Any help? :c

The build is -
Intel i5 - 3750k @ 3.4ghz, I turned off it's turbo acceleration.
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB DDR3
MSI GTX560TI Twin Frozr II
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX650
500gb Hatachi Hard drive and the Samsung 1tb hard drive which is dead. They're both SATA drives.
And lastly, a DVD writer made by LG which model I can't exactly remember.

Sorry for the long post. xD

Are any of the parts OC'd? If so try running everything at stock. In my own experience if a machine is just randomly cutting out completely then 9 times out of 10 it is a dodgy PSU, or componant that is causing the PSU to cut out.

Can you try a different PSu? a spare or a friends maybe? Failing that you need to strip back your pc to the basics. Run it with the onboard intel graphics, 1 HD, mem and nothing else and see if you still have troubles.

Unfortunately the only spare PSU I had was a 500wat PSU, but it died last year, the Corsair PSU was the replacement and it's been working like a breeze ever since I've had it, not sure why it would just decide to not work now.

Though to be honest when I was cleaning out my PC from dust I did notice there was around 2 white globs inside the power supply, I got told that it was most likely... glue? And not to worry about it. Sorry, I'm really bad at computers. xD

Anyway, I'm gonna test running the PC on the onboard graphics and what happens.

You sure your CPU is not overheating? Are you able to find out what temp it is running at and monitor it while the computer crashes to see what it gets to?

The CPU tempertures ran at 38-40.

I've removed my graphics card and I ran a memtest with only one stick of the 4gb ram stick, it passed the test again, so I'm gonna run another memtest with the graphics card removed but with both the 4gb ram sticks installed, just to be sure that it isn't the RAM.

Sorry for the double post but...

I decided to try the memtest with the 8gb installed without the graphics card this time. I looked on my Windows 7 and it came up that 7.90gb was only usable. o.O

After checking that, I decided to run the memtest with both of the sticks of RAM installed but it crashed during around 51%.

I then took out one stick of RAM and tested that, it passed. So, for the sake of curiousity I took the stick that had passed the test and inserted the other one.... It passed that one too.

I get the idea that is this probably cuz my PC decided to not crash on me during the tests but it's odd how it crashed with 8gb installed but it suddenly passes both of the sticks of RAM when only 4gb of it is installed.

have you got tried different memory slots for the memory ?

not sure if it relates to your mobo, but do you have both sticks situated in the right memory slots, seen a few mentions of z77 mobo's have a bit of a fit if it expects them to be in slots 1&3 but there in 2&4.

I can't get to the other slots cuz of the huge coolermaster CPU cooler is blocking the way, I shoulda just stuck with the stock cooler since I don't plan to overclock but my friend insisted I get one. x.x

I'm having to use the 2&4 slots, which both match each other.

I would try removing the Cooler but I have no experience in this at all, and I'm afraid I might bust something.

I only really know how to install RAM and a GPU. XD

And this is really weird, I just tried the memtest again with the 8gb of RAM installed into the motherboard with the graphics card and it passed the test.

So... Maybe the RAM and Graphics card aren't the problem?

I should also point out I had reinstalled Windows 7 (64bit) into my 500gb in order to check how much RAM I had, without the broken 1TB hard drive installed too.

Sorry for bumping this old thread but the problem is still occurring. D:

Seen the last post I've replaced the RAM, HDD and the power supply which sadly enough hasn't fixed my problem.

I'm in the process of trying to return my motherboard for a refund to get a different motherboard from another brand.

So, while I'm waiting would anyone be able to recommend me a motherboard within the same price range or slightly higher than a Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77? I'd much prefer it to be an Asus broad, but yeah, I need a new board from the looks of it. D:

And one that would be compatible with
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB DDR3 CML8GX3M2A16009

Just hoping my warrenty hasn't expired by now. =/

Remove the competitor name, it's against the rules.

Have you tried a fresh install of Windows?

Whoops, fixed. Sorry.

And, yes. I've tried installing Windows fresh multiple times but it seemed the crashes came more frequently a lot more than it did last time.

It crashed just as the installation was about to be completed and it crashed again when it was booting up the Windows 7 from the disc.

Something is very wrong then if that's happening, seeing as you've done memtest, only thing I can think of is possibly a faulty motherboard, or even a faulty CPU...

or even a faulty CPU...

Lord almighty, please don't say that. xD

I checked the clock on the CPU and it was on the 3.4ghz default clock, I turned off the turbo feature and the temperatures were around 36-38 Celsius, but yeah. I suppose I could it be the CPU. >.> Suppose I might have to be a word with the seller about that.

I'm gonna try returning the board, I haven't got a reply yet so it might take some time before I'll able to do anything about it.

While I wait I'm gonna start hunting to find a decent replacement for the motherboard.

Probably not gonna buy another Gigabyte board after this. :I

i had the same problem with my pc. i also have the same motherboard. i found a fix that stops the crashing. what i did was i updated the bios and changed bclk to 1.00.10 my PC hasn't crashed in over 2 days since i did them fixes.

Right, back with an update.y

I sent back the motherboard to try get myself a refund so I could get myself another board. However the refund request was rejected because apparently the motherboard had track damage near the PCI-E slots, according to the diagnosis that Scan provided me with. Not exactly how there was any damage on the board as I double checked it before I shipped it but there we go. Sounds like they gave me a defective board to me.

Now, I'm not entirely sure what track damage is but meh, as long as I've got a replacement I'm okay. I've sent back my CPU to see if I'll be able to get a replacement.

See what happens next. :x

@chrisispk, I would try updating the BIOS but I don't want to risk brinking the entire system because if the computer will freeze during the update.
