From HERE, so take with the obligatory pinch of salt.

HD 3850 ($149 to 179):

* 55nm RV670PRO GPU at 668 MHz (why not 666?)
* 256MB GDDR3 memory at 828 MHz DDR (1.66 GT(/s)
* 10.69 GPixel/s fillrate
* 52.99 GB/s memory bandwidth
* 320 Unified Stream Processors
* 24x Custom Filter Anti-Aliasing support
* ATI Avivo HD
* ATI PowerPlay power saving technology
* Game Physics processing capability (this belongs to fairy tale land, but you know – marketing...)
* HDMI support

HD 3870 ($200 to 230):

* 55nm RV670XT GPU clocked to 775 MHz
* 512MB GDDR4 memory clocked at 1.2 GHz DDR (2.4 GT/s)
* 12.40 GPixel/s fill-rate
* 76.80 GB/s memory bandwidth
* 320 Unified Stream Processors
* 24x Custom Filter Anti-Aliasing support
* 55nm process
* ATI Avivo HD
* ATI PowerPlay power saving technology
* Game Physics processing capability
* HDMI support

One part i like is

The real truth is that AMD started running into clocking walls (with a selected heatsink-fan combo) and again decided to crash the prices instead of gunning for a better cooling setup that will enable those 800 MHz+ clocks we saw earlier in development.

Bad news: parts are clocked lower from stock

Good news: Plug a decent aftermarket cooler on and these should clock very nicely!

Interesting times.

i think having the RV670Pro out at sub £100, which should be possible even with bending over for the exchange rate to have another go, will be mighty nice indeed. Especially if it overclocks well.

Might be looking at a X1950Pro successor in the HD3850, and we all know how well those sold!

The HD3870 looks to be a tweaked, boosted, and fixed HD2900...... no more whining about noise, heat and power usage, and fingers crossed the free AAx4 means they have sorted the well known R600 AA problems.

As i said, if the only reason why ATI havent clocked these babys higher is that they are trying to keep in the 1-slot thermal envelope (which tbh the 8800GT is severly pushing) then there is no reason why the manufacturers like HIS wont slap their own derived coolers on them and clock them up some more...... or you could just buy a slower one, slap a HR-03 or the like on, and be in clock heaven.

All we need now is fo Nvidia to do a deal with Intel, implement High gate technology, and have some overclocking monsters to kill off ati in the enthuthiast market.

When that day comes i'll buy myself a airplane and start herding flying pigs......

TBH, dropping 50Mhz isnt the end of the world, it's only what.....6%? And if they are dropping in price then that should make up for it some.

You are forgetting that the 8800GT was suppoesed to be £50 MORE expensive than it already is....... so the only place they were going to be hitting the £100 mark is in our dreams..... Its a bit like saying that if Nvidia dropped the GTS 640 prices to £175-£200 it would have killed off the HD2900, true, but it didnt happen.

hope rv680 will be decent but i think it still will not compete with 8950gx2 in performance in market maybe as they will be cheaper...

8950GX2?

That card hasnt even been confirmed as far as i can tell..... and shoudlnt it be 8850GX2, as there is currently no 8900 series? And even if it does com out it wont be untill prob late jan/early feb at the EARLIEST......

Complaining that a one card wont match another when neither are out for a good 2/3 months is a little premature isnt it? especialy when most known about them is rumour, including their very existance?
