Im interested in finding out more about newsgroups but dont know where to start. Can anyone point me in the direction of a current site that tells me what you would need exactly and what it all means?

Depends what you want todo with them. I use Sabnzbd and lots of fun automated stuff. Ive just moved over to using a self contained virtual machine which had all apps I needed built in and this VM just runs all the time.

You will also need a newsgroup account from somewhere.
 
The mods deleted the old Newsgroup thread as people were posting links to sites so doubt we can go into much detail but in short you need three things:

Client: sabnzbd is the best and free
Access: Google for a provider, use one with a free trial to start
Search: Again Google for an nzb search site, plenty are free

That's all you need. You search for something on the site, eg Linux distribution, sabnzbd opens it and downloads it from your access provider. Bear in mind that if you really like Linux you'll want to pay for a good provider.
 
ahh newgroups .. been using them since 1991 - remember way back the fun of using all text based systems like Archie Gopher and the popular finger command (old heads on here will know what the finger command does)

kids these days dont know how easy it is for them
