Newspapers warn Apple over sales

So one company wants access to your personal information to target advertising at you, as opposed to another company who wants your personal information to target advertising at you. Company A wants your information through it's digital distribution service from which it takes a 30% cut of digital sales for going through their servcie with the remaining 70% going to comany N and company N wants your information through it's online service from which it takes 100%.

Murdock Vs Jobs. Both dicks which are looking to **** you. You simply have to decide which dick you want to be ****ed by.

finally the EU stops leeching money of MS and goes for the real criminals. Shame they only care about newspapers and not music.

That's because the press are propaganda machines for political parties. They have a vested interest in making sure the majority of the nation wakes up every day and gets enraged over breakfast so they can push their political agendas that it's the other guy (re: the person reading the newspaper you're not) who's ****ing everyone.

The music industry is to up it's own arse to have a point anyone cares about and any that do have a point write boring cliched folk songs and believe in hippy dippy socialist utopias where people ride bikes made out of rainbows into friendships of duck feathers and marshmallows.

Haha, spot on, is all this overly 'twee' ****** annoying you aswell then. :o

annoys me most it has spread to Tv adverts.

Really not seeing the issue here... Include both iTunes and non-iTunes options, job done.

The entire article hinges on one "critics argue" statement with no explanation of what the critics are actually arguing or why. Not sure how you can get all cross when there's no substance here.

/typing on an iPhone so my opinion is invalid

Apple is a business. Apple designed and built this whole infrastructure. Apple wants to get paid to support it and make a profit for its shareholders.

I dont pick up a newspaper for free in a newsagent so whats the difference? I use the press reader app with tons of choice and I am happy to pay 59p per copy of a paper.

Sounds like the publishers having a cry as they didnt think of it first!

why is this such a bad thing ??

There are currently hundreds upon thousands of develpers all selling their apps on the app store, some becoming millionaires, and they don't seem to mind about the commission charges.

Don't like 'em ? go elsewhere. Apple can't impose restrictions on whether newspaper subscribers choose to only offer content for free via the android store for all the android tablets that are coming.

If they don't like it there are choices.

a) Don't develop for iOS.
b) Go through the jailbroken store.

Personally I like it the way it is. Apple stop all the buggy, unoptimised crap from getting onto their app market. It's one of my favourite features, a far better implementation than Android IMO.

Plus it's not like Apple are moving the goalposts. This was made clear from the start. You can't just walk into a shop and then whinge because you don't like the prices, especially when said shop has a reputation for it. Just take your custom elsewhere.

Apple fanboys are the idiots of the digital world, this is nothing new, but it is shocking how the phenomenon has exploded with little to no resistance - it is an orgy of stupidity. Buyers suckle on Jobs' teat like subservient lambs without questioning the how or why of their hardware and software.

It's damaging the industry but these mongoloids don't and won't realize it. Nice one.

Wound up much? Just leave them to it, if people enjoy a product, let them buy it.

Personally I think people are bending over and accepting whatever Apple tells them and that ultimately it will be their downfall and all the lemmings that have bought iPads will regret their spend.

VIVA LA ANDROID!!!

His vehement Apple tirade is almost as cliched as Apple users vehement Windows and Microsoft hate. Of course there's no moronic Windows users at all who don't question the how or why of their hardware and software or suckle on the Microsoft teat.

thing is, nobody else has anything like the infrastructure of itunes / the apple app store.

Over 66 % of all mp3 downloads are through itunes, and they charge a commission for this, the same as other mp3 download services do.

Music publishers pay the charges in order to gain a larger audience. Yes they may not like the charges, but when they have 66 % of the market you've got no choice but to pay it.

Now that the digital media is extending beyond mp3s into apps, movies, tv shows and newspapers etc.. This is going to be no different. Want the biggest market ? pay the price.

Switch things around and give somebody else the market share and they'd do exactly the same. Its business. Its like microsoft with windows. Want the best operating system for the IBM PC format ? pay the price. Don't like it ? tough .. go elsewhere.

I know - I'm just having a windup. Personally I don't care either way, I do find it frustrating that at work I now have to support all the directors that thought it was a good idea to get one especially considering how weak a device the iPad is in an enterprise environment (Actually any Apple device for that matter) but if people personally find that spending £500-£800 on a glorified web browser does it for them then all power to them.

I chose to elsewhere and have not missed having Apple in my life at all. I especially don't miss not having to deal with the bloated mess that is iTunes in windows. I like to tinker and modify my devices to my personal liking. Apple users like to be spoon fed how their experience 'should be' by Jobs... each to their own...

what 'bloat' would this be then ?

seriously, you have 8gb of RAM, 1gb of Graphics RAM, a 4.5ghz quad core processor, what exactly does itunes do that troubles any of that ? you're obsessing over obsessings sake. I bet you have at least 1tb of disk space too...
