None, there is absolutely no downside to using SSL.

There is a small hit to downloadspeed, CPU use and I/O when using SSL.

Well just set it up and there is a speed hit. Down from 2050kpbs to 2030kbps lol. :eek:

But I think that's more down to being from their central USA secure server as opposed to the no SSL European one that I was using.
Either way, it stays on for me

I think even the word "small" is a complete overstatement here.
