Newsreader that shuts down...

Hey all,

I currently use Newsbin to download from newsgroups but it lacks a feature which I am in need of.

I am looking for similar software that will shutdown my pc once it has finished downloading, is there anything out there that is as good if not better than Newsbin?

GrabIt can shut down after its done.

Works with importing NBZ files as well.

Newsleecher is by far best of the bunch I've tried (newsbin pro, grabit etc). Tis not free though.

I've yet to hear of a feature that newsleecher doesn't have that another reader does.

Yep I prefer Alt.Binz over newsleecher, its got the same features if not more and does not feel like a resource hog. Plus I always found newsleecher was pretty crap at auto extracting it always named the folders funny they all started with !RnE or something like that.

You should try out alt.binz see if you like it .

If you tell it to extract to the same folder as the archive or in a custom extraction folder then it won't do that. The !RnE is just it's way of telling you that Repair'n'Extract (RnE) put it there. It's also got good features like permanently deleting all the rar and par2 files and deleting the un-needed pars from the queue.

I haven't tried Alt.Binz, so I can't comment on whether or not it has similar features.

I love that I can tell Newsleecher to monitor a folder for NZBs and just download them, so that I can tell it what to download when I'm not home and things like that, and the download scheduler, so it does it all at "off-peak" times, so I don't go over the limits in my FUP.

Alt.binz automatically pauses the par2 files and downloads them only if the post your downloading is incomplete pretty good feature. Also alt.binz manages file a lot easier than newsleecher when looking at what your downloading.
