So after catching up on Alienation and Resogun again lately I thought I'd check what Housemarque have been up to. Since there doesn't seem to be any mention of it here so far, here you go. Apparently dubbed as a spiritual successor to Smash TV.

Launch trailer

From the video description:

"From the collaboration between Housemarque (Resogun, Alienation, Matterfall), and Robotron and Smash TV legendary creator Eugene Jarvis comes Nex Machina, an explosive arcade experience created with competition in mind."

Gameplay footage

Every game I've played of theirs has been superb so far. Likely a day 1 purchase from me.

I have to admit that my Last of Us fanboyism led me into buying a PS4 about five years too early (I bought a PS3 very late just to investigate GT5). But even though I've played and bought very little for it, Resogun is almost good enough to justify the purchase on its own.

To me, growing up with Pong and arcades, this kind of game still feels like 'proper' gaming, pushing all the right buttons in my reward and frustration centres. So I may join you... especially as I've had £40's worth of credit on my PSN account for about three years!

Thanks for the heads-up.

They definitely have an old school feel to them and yet they always seem to push the graphical limits whilst keeping that retro look. Resogun still looks superb to me and pretty cool that they're planning on adding 4k support for it.

This looks really good. Like Alienation Evolved. Shocked to learn that Alienation only ran at 30fps on PS4 though. That might explain some of the controller lag I was getting. Hopefully Alienation will get PS4 Pro treatment.

This new one is a smooth 60fps.

Yep noticed it in Alienation straight away when rotating quickly. Surprising really but they still a good game. Apparently nex machina is due in q2. Pretty hype now.

I'm guessing Alienation didn't sell well if they're branching to PC now. I don't think many PS4 users have even heard of Alienation.

Current high scrore on the beta.

Been playing a bit and it's very tough. Getting a high score involves chaining saving humans together in a long combo. Every time you pick one up a bar ticks down in the top right to maintain to combo. Surprisingly strategic and you have to keep your eye on multiple tasks.

Secrets galore, amazing music. Loving it so far, though still no release date annoyingly.

Jeez this game seems way harder than Resogun. Haven't even managed to complete arcade on experienced difficulty yet. Got to what I think is the last boss last night and lost all my lives so had to use continue. Problem is you lose all your power-ups and have no way of getting them back during the boss fight. No triple dash, increased weapon range...etc instantly makes the boss a hundred times harder. Might as well just restart the entire run tbh.

Excellent game overall though.
