Hi,

I'm looking for a new monitor to game with, however I can't justify spending £460 on it.

I can spend about £300-350 - what would be the next best thing for me in the 24" range?

Cheers.

How about HP ZR24W? It's definitely not the fastest monitor, but at least the image quality should be outstanding. Depends how serious you are about gaming.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a 16:10 monitor for gaming. A lot of people run a resolution of 1920x1200 for gaming. Myself included and it's amazing :)

According to a rumor the dell U2410 is soon to be replaced by the U2412M, which will be a 16:10 e-ips panel, no official source has confirmed this yet though.

I have reliable info from a Dell employee that the so called 'U2412HM' doesn't exist. H denotes 16:9 aspect ratio.

There will be U2312HM and U2212HM monitors for those that prefer 16:9.

Found this on the interwebs. Dont know if its true.

Where dig that BS up from

Loads of people have been using 16:10 monitors for gaming for years...

Just to throw my bit into the ring but - I've heard some games have stopped supporting 1920 x 1200 - assumedly because it's (unfortunately) being phased out as its simply not as profitable to make these sized displays when you get far better economies of scale making 1920 x 1080 displays that can go in TV's too - or at least that's what my A level business studies tells me.

In over 5 years of using a 1920*1200 monitor i think i played 1 game ever that didn't support 16:10, and that's because it ran at 640*480 fixed.

Not sure where all these scare stories of no 16:10 support come from?

@Locke. Get the facts before spreading misleading information. The problems with no 16:10 support is primarly a thing from 2011 and later so what you did 7/8 years ago is totally irrelevant.

There are plenty of games from 2011 that doesnt have 16:10 support. Witcher 2, Assassins Creed Brotherhood, Bulletstorm, Alice Madness returns, Dungeon Siege 3 and so on.

Still though 16:9 works better with most games released the last 5 years even if the game support 16:10 because you get smaller Field Of Vision using 16:10. So for gaming 16:9 is a better choice for sure.

16:10 is better than 16:9 for strategy games: Age of Empires 3, Red Alert and everything that isn't gaming or video.

For older strategy games 16:10 is better yes , but not newer ones like Starcraft 2 for instance. There 16:9 is better as well.

You can always set the aspect ratio to 16:9 though and play with black bars at the top/bottom.

It's just the same then, and the black bars would only be taken up by black plastic on a different monitor anyway.

Then I can keep my 16:10 when working :)
