Next best to AMD 3700X?

I was looking at the AMD 3700X but prices have gone up recently. I know that often you can pay a lot more for the latest and greatest when actually there isn't a noticeable difference (~5%) between that and a chip that is a lot cheaper as it is older.

What would be the equivalent for the 3700X or is this the best value CPU out there at the minute? It certainly seems popular.

The 3600X is an extremely good chip, in general use not much difference to the 3700X

Cheers. Would you say the difference is worth the £70 if the PC is for five years? Primarily gaming.

The 3600X will be a great CPU for a little while yet and you could always upgrade the CPU later on if you need more power in the future?

Otherwise, you've got MM access, seen some deals in there a few times for the 3700x?

If you want to buy today and then not think about it, spend the extra for the extra cores and threads

3600X is a 6 core 12 thread vertion of that CPU with the same clock speeds, or for £60 less (£180) the 3600 (none X) is also 6 core 12 thread but with 5% lower clock speeds.

There's not much that the 3600 can't do at the moment, nor for a long time.

In 90% of applications now or in the next 5 years, the 3600 will not be the bottleneck, so I'd be looking at spending less now.

Do a net present value calculation on deferring capital outlay.

Now we're talking my language. Any suggestions on the WACC?

Starting to feel like I only need the 3600X and a 5700 XT instead of the 3700X and 2070 Super. Save myself about £180. My monitor is a 1080p 144Hz and I don't see myself buying a new one in the next year unless I really get back into gaming.

There’s always the 2700x, scored as highly as my 3800x can in some benchmarks (cpu queen aida64).

Get the baseline 3600 non x now then next year drop in a 3700x when the prices drop due to the 4*** series launching....a stop gap as you will. I got the 3600 from a 3930k and just overclocked the ryzen to 4.2. Job done.

Yeah, this is definetly the way to go as the non X is about 25% cheaper for 3% less performance at best. Keep it for a year or 2 then drop in a 4700/4900x and your good for another 5+ years.

if looking at overclocking defiantly not, even though the cpu is on 7nm, thats still a lot of focust heat which will quickly overwhelm the stock cooler.
if you plan to run at stock speed though it will ok but still run fairly warm. I'd buy a aftermarket cooler anyway as its best to have max cooling so the chip can reach it's boost clocks and keep them for longer

Okay, so go with the 3600 + a Cooler Master 212 for total of £185 vs 3700X for £270. Shame, I really like the look of the stock fan on the 3700X haha. Having the big old tower heatsink hides some of my LEDS

for the money the 212 will be a good combination, but others may have their recommendations, so hold fire for now

The stock fan is fine for the 3700x as it's also ships with the more powerful 3900x and pretty much matches the 212. If your main usage is gaming then the stock fan is fine for any of the amd chips.

If you do want to upgrade then the scythe mugen 5 is a good shout as it performs almost to the level of the top tier noctuas for half the price.

my 3900x used to run in the high 80's at stock speed on the included cooler which is far too toasty for me, ended up watercooling, the cooler will work, be a higher temps
