First off, sorry if this is in the wrong place, but i didn't want to start off a project log just yet as i know i wont be gaining parts for at least a month, and i'd like to use this space to bounce a whole bunch of ideas off people - if this does however belong in the project logs section, please move me!
OK, so i have the best lian li case ever made - the v2000, in black, i actually bought it from another forum member yeeeeaaars back, and collected t, so whever you were, cheers! Going to make a nice project.
I've built many a PC before, although, nothing really substabtial in the last couple of years, been lurking here for the last couple of months figuring out what's hot and what's not, and what i want.
So, i guess we can treat this as a pre-project log, err.. project log
Basic Idea: Build a Rig that plays games, not absolutely awesomely at huge resolutions, but at least medium settings @ 1080. I will be overclocking, been a long time since i have overclocked, but i'd like to start sinking my teeth into a semi decent overclock. Build must be very quiet, doesn't have to be completely silent, but definately no deltas! Oh, and above all else, looks will be everything!
So, with this in mind, i'll be looking at a 3570K. I've recently picked up a 660ti, i may keep this, i may add another, i may pass it to the missus for her rig, not sure yet, will know more when i'm more committed to buying. Motherboard/ram: unsure yet, have a bunch of the ballistix sport, but again, unsure whether i'll be keeping it as my primary ram. Have a 1kw silverstone strider, well out of warranty, but still more than ample. Going to start on air cooling, then 'finish' the build with a nice custome water loop or 2.
So, visuals. I've decided on a blue and yellow theme. These were the o riginal colours i used when i first REALLY got into gaming when playing quake 3 fairly competitively. I'll be picking out these colours in the fans/lighting/uv reactive stuff/perspex bits/heatsink colour/motherboard slots/braiding.
I'll be aiming to have every PCB black, or failing that, at least one single colour that will go with the build - but i'm fairly certain black will be my best choice for uniform looks.
When i add my watercooling, i'm unsure whether to go for perspex tops with nickel plated blocks, or whether to go with the black delrin type tops. Also unsure on water/tube colour - 2 loops, 1 yellow 1 blue? 1 loop picking the least represented colour? we shall see!
The internals of the v2000, like most lian li's are silver, so thinking on getting them all powder coated black, and use some coloured perspex in there to bring out some colour. I will be cutting my own side window, and i'm thinking of something different for a top window, maybe something in different coloured perspex with the (as of yet unknown) name of the project. This will also serve as a 'view port' to the graphics card block, which, as the motherboard is upside-down in this case, will be easily shown off.
So, ideas for yellow/blue/black stuff!
Viper fans... these seem kind of fitting really, they are the correct colour, pretty decent spec's as far as i can tell, and, well, the name! There's not really going to be many other places i can injext the yellow, braiding, perspex and water.
Motherboards: i don;t want to spend a fortune on the board, but i want it to have a few overclocking features whilst keeping wth the colour scheme, so, the current MSI boards - me like. Black PCB, blue heatsinks/slots, perfect. But, i don't really rate MSI. I'd prefer Asus, having used them loads, but i'm hearing really good things about the Gigabytes, especially with their warranty, but i am going to be really anal about the colours...
Ram - i'll either go for some decent ram and figure out a way of making the heatsinks the colour i want, or i'll pick the ram specifically for unity of colour.
Anyway, there you go, very early stages of thought for this build, but please, feel free to bounce ideas at me, maybe you guys have heard of products i haven't which could be absolutely perfect for this build, would really appreciate your input!
