Right, it has come to this... one of these cars will succeed the prelude...

They both can be bought for 5-6k and they both weigh in about 650 fully comp insured...

What one would you pick?

The galant, 1480kg, 280bhp, awd, triptronic, more creature comforts, usable back seats, more anonymous

The celica, 1350kg, 250bhp, awd, manual, the more "economical" and a hatchback with pretty good rear sears considering.

I must admit i'm swaying toward the galant, but my "sensible" side notes that a single turbo 2l will be more economical than an auto twin turbo v6 :)

Most of my driving is motorway and the drive through the town to work, but the odd trackday wouldn't go amiss.

I would probably go for the Galant VR4

I love the styling, they're practical, can be tuned up reasonably easily (uses the same engine as a 3000GT/GTO afaik), and is definitely a sleeper - will embarrass many, many other cars on the road!

yeah, its also parkable anywhere - it doesn't look like a scoob or evo, and the tiptronic automatic is actually appealing to me. my only worry is the handling coming from the prelude

I would say if anything the handling would be just as good, if not better.

AYC (I think it's got it anyway) + 4wd will do a lot to help the handling!

I'll ask my dad later on the difference in handling between a VR4 and Prelude, he's driven both pretty hard ;)

I'm going to go the other way and say the Celica GT4, I much prefer the shape and the nature of the car is more my thing than the Galant.
I guess the only thing you can really do is try and drive them both and decide.

I am not convinced that the economy saving will be huge if your refering to things like mpg. Take it out of the equation to be honest and worry about useful things like performance, style and comfort.

If either go wrong both will be expensive to fix.

This is so weird - I'm having exactly the same dilemma here - abeit a little further away (after summer) but all going well, I should end up getting one of these two.

Let me (us) know what you choose! and how it drives!

the gt4 is a lovely car, totally in your face performace and look wise, totally love them. Followed a group of them to a meet once in my 200sx and it took all my (mad) skill(z) to keep up (was in the wet, but still they proberbly weren't going for it)

Having said that i would personally go for the Mitsu, just really like the car and the practicality and subtleness it offers

yea those celica GT4's certainly look the part, especially with GT4 wing, nice wheels and a big chrome pipe out back!

it weighs less than the VR4...which is always a good thing handling wise.

id take a look into the communities, see which car is better supported, where uc an get aftermarket parts, and how tunable for how much each model will come to. this is improtant to ascertain before jumping into either imo

From my own research between these two cars I've found far more on Celica GT4 ST205 tuning than Galant VR4s ... I *think* the reason for this is that the Gallant VR4 hasnt been released in the US so it misses much of the online tuning scene.

yea US backing is definately a plus as there are hoardes of US based producers of tuning parts for the cars they tune over there. okay u may have to import x-atlantic but at least there are options.

vr4 community is top notch.

Cracking owners club.

Cars are very reliable and modding, although not as extensive as the 2.0 toyota lump, is more than enough for most...
