As you know, i have a VW Lupo 1.4 Sport 16v at the moment, and as a lot of you know, i was going to get a Fiat Grande Punto 1.9 JTD but i think i've gone off that item (i told you so's are coming lol)

I've had my Lupo about 2 months now and i love it, i've done a few little things to it (Tinted windows/Air filter/speakers/amps/sub/dvd player/sat nav)

The majority of the things i've done can be taken out (the audio etc...) and put into a new car.

Even though it's early days, i am looking for my 2nd car. I'm really getting into tuning/modding/styling my car and want something that i can start on asap that has a bigger body so i can do more to it. The lupo is great but the boot is a downside.

I think that i've narrowed my choices down to 2 cars which will be a nice upgrade to what i've got and a lot of mods can be done to them.

My choices -

Vw Golf (not sure on which model would be good)
Honda Civic 1.6 VTEC

I'm assuming that the Civic will be the faster/more realiable car and has a lot of boot space for my audio, and a lot can be done to them in regards to tuning/styling etc...

What are your thoughts?

I was thinkin of buying a cheapo one from autotrader and sticking it in a garage to work on at the weekend. Good idea? When i've had the Lupo a year, i can then bring the beast out to play :)

Spent £2.3k on my Lupo, so about the same, althought i've seen a few vtec/vti's on autotrader at £1k, i don't mind putting the work in, got a year to do what i want to it :)

Mondeo Estate,

Slam it on 4 spokes, tint all those windowz, get some subs pumpin' some phat bass so heavy it shakes the windowz and slap a RSAP kit on it YO' will look a treet. :D

My Mother owns a Honda Civic 1.6 VTEC and it’s pretty much the least cool car I could imagine. It looks horrible from the outside and even worse inside, it’s noisy, the ride is terrible and bits of interior plastic are forever falling off. Basically it’s a car that Honda designed for old people and no amount of spoilers, alloy wheels or sub woofers is ever going to change that.

I’m not a massive fan of VWs but out of those two I’d pick the Golf every time, just make sure you get one with a decent engine.

Hmm, £2000ish

Lots of choice really.

Id be looking at a S13 200sx... or similar.

Nice project.

He's 18 with 0 NCB.

Good luck insuring an S13 ;)

Andy, have you passed your test yet?

Drive the Lupo for a year, build up some NCB, THEN you can get a faster/bigger car.

edit... God damn, I really should read threads properly. @ me.

Ignore everything I just said :p

If you have another car to use while the project is off the road, then go for it. Although, you might find you can't afford to do it up while you're running another car.

My brother has the 1.6 vtec. It's alright but it's been modded with a stiffer suspension, a stupidly loud exhaust shoved up it and bodykit so I couldn't really give a correct opinion on a standard version.

The ride in my bro's is very hard probably due to it's adjustment's and top end there really isn't as much pull as I expected from it (seem's to flat out at ~90  ). It handles well though and looks nice. I love owning him in the 2.2vtec though
