It appears that Lee Carsley will be taking over for the upcoming England fixtures.

I expect the FA will see this as a trial period, and if he does well, he might get the job. I'm delighted to see the back of Southgate, but this doesn't seem a particularly exciting appointment at all. It would be typical of the FA to take the easy option.

That said, I have heard some positive things in terms of his coaching style, but I don't know much about him.

Assuming he wanted the job, I do like Pochettino. The optics of an Argentinian managing the England team are not lost on me, but he's a great guy and a good manager.

Howe is reasonably good but won't want to leave Newcastle. Potter... might be ok but disappeared after the disaster at Chelsea.

Southgate barely managed a decent performance, just results, so if Carsley gets the team playing entertaining football give the guy a shot.

If they genuinely believe him to be the best option I am happy to give him a chance, but it's the FA...

Surprised at the negative reaction from some, I really rate Tuchel and think he's a very solid appointment for an international team.

He's a top coach and knows his way around tournament football, he can be pragmatic but nothing like Southgate was.

No guarantees of success, but I'm very happy with that, will start watching England again now, a bit more enthusiastically...

Interestingly, he signed his contract on the 8th of October, so the media storm around Carsley losing to Greece was entirely pointless!

Still, it’s good to be excited to watch England again (for now)!

Good press conference - a refreshing change from Southgate.

Interesting reaction from the likes of Neville and Carragher to this, saying it's harder than ever for English managers and we don't have an identity.

The reality is the various English managers are just not that great, who is there? Potter and Howe. Good managers but not massively exciting...

I think it's a great appointment really, 18 months of pure focus on trying to win the World Cup with a top manager. I don't think he'll be upsetting people, he's not with the players that frequently, and he handles the media very well.
