Next gen android tv box?

So I have Amazon Fire tv, and the minix neo x8h-plus..

Was just wondering if anybody knew of anything more powerful/newer or roughly when new devices will start to come out? just my step dad wants to buy one but doesn't know whether to wait for a better device as is borrowing one of mine at the moment.

Just basically not wanting to buy something then something better to come out in the next month

.. FireTv is good but lack of root is annoying

At that price point the market, for some reason, doesn't evolve quickly with hardware when it comes to media boxes.
