Hey All,

I'm looking for some advice, from past experience buying CPU's on release day does anybody have any idea if the stock situation for the new AMD cpu launch will be simmilar to the 3080 launch? I.E potentially a very long wait after release to actually get one unless I win the refresh lottery?

I am wondering if I should wait for the new CPU's or whether to just get one before my 3080 comes, as I'm currently rocking a 2600 which will probably be quite the bottleneck anyway.

The only thing really stopping me waiting is the worry that they won't actually be in stock on release and it will be another preorder extravaganza, as I don't want to go through the same situation of waiting for a new cpu for potentially months , that I'm currently going through with my 3080.

Look back at the Zen 2 thread on this forum. Availability seemed okay on launch day, but maybe demand will be a lot higher this time. If building a system in the next month or so I think there's a lot to be said for picking up a 3600X (used?) then swapping out for Zen 3 next year.

I expect you will find demand much higher than Zen2 from July last year. All things considered people were and are still hanging on strong to 2nd through 7th generation Intel parts waiting for a reason to upgrade, and the built up over the last couple of years putting AMD firmly back on the map for best performance all-round and will be cemented by Zen3.

Have your trigger finger ready if you want one early. :)

Thanks both, I have gone for a 3600x to tide me over , and then I will upgrade my Mobo and CPU in 12-18 months if I start to see any issues down the line :)

This is what I did. Got a cheap 3600.
