What exclusives have Sony announced for PS5 that has everyone gushing for? As far as I can tell, there aint any. So people are basing the PS5s line up on PS4s?

As for which one I will go for? I'm not sure. Do I need an Xbox when my PC is much much more powerful and all 1st party stuff will play on PC. My Xbox X right now doesn't get used much.

The only reason I still have my PS4 Pro is 100% for TLOU2 Right now its use is purely Fortnite for my son. Nothing else in the Sony line up appeals to me.

Almost guarantee that TLoU2 will be released around the time of PS5. No doubt ND will release it on PS4 though else a hell of a lot of fans are not going to be happy..

Yep. And the PS3's exclusives, and the PS2's etc. My confidence level in their first-party studios and the external devs who choose to develop exclusively for it is pretty high at this point.

So basing future success on past accomplishments? Look at the PS3 for how not to carry that one through.

It depends on what games are announced for each console. I'll probably get both, but favour the PS5 over Xbox Scarlett. Other than Halo none of the MS exclusives really interest me anymore, they've been a bit too 'safe' this generation, sticking to pushing their franchises rather than developing new IP. Top quality story-driven single player games (preferably with a third person perspective) are basically my favourite type of game, and Sony specialised in them this generation, so hopefully they maintain that next gen.

and yet the ps4 absolutely trounced the XBOne completely and utterly DESPITE the PS3 only managing to share the market roughly 50/50 with the ….360 was it....

Not sure your argument really works tbh

and that was giving MS a 6 month head start as well or something along those lines

I'm not really sure Sony "won", so much as Microsoft completely screwed up (and far more than Sony did with the PS3). I mean, the list of failures is fairly large:
  • They announced that the console would be digital-focused. Games would still come on disc, but it was effectively a license to play the game, which was then tied to your account. The backlash was considerable, so they ditched the idea, and rewrote large parts of the OS.
  • The console was £80 more expensive than the PS4, despite being less powerful (because they wanted to force Kinect on people, assuming that it would then be used).
  • They planned to make the Xbox One the centre of your media set-up. Most people weren't interested. And then it was rendered somewhat pointless by HDMI CEC, Smart TVs, Google Home, Amazon Echo, etc.
  • They thought they could grab the "casual gaming" market from the Nintendo Wii by focusing on the Kinect. But that market showed little interest in a £430 console, and then basically disintegrated. By the time they realised the mistake, many of their first party studios had spent years working on Kinect titles, which were subsequently cancelled and studios were closed.
  • They decided to set up Xbox Entertainment Studios. The intention was to produce TV shows and movies, including particularly ambitious plans for a Quantum Break TV show which tied in to the game. They scrapped the idea, and released Quantum Break as it was.
  • They diverted resources to mobile games, to try and support Windows Phone and the Windows Store apps.
  • They intended to show off the potential for Azure to really change the face of gaming by creating a new Crackdown game with fully destructible scenery. It didn't work. Even after years of delays. They basically abandoned the project last year when the developer was bought out by Epic.
There were other mistakes too. Loads of them. The end result is a console that had few true successes. Arguably Forza is one of them; the series has come to dominate its genre. But mostly, the Xbox One is a console of mistakes and shortcomings, which released at a time where Microsoft was making similar mistakes across divisions. It took years to get the console, and Microsoft as a whole, back on track, at which point the development focus will have shifted to the new console.

Sony were fortunate, in that while they also got caught up in the Wii/Casual/Mobile gaming thing, they never went anywhere near as deep as Microsoft. And they were, as a result, perfectly positioned to exploit the mistake (which they did, to great effect).

The new console will almost certainly be better than the One. They know they messed up. All people want is a device to play great games, and a decent selection of said games to pick from. And that is what Xbox is focusing on going forward, not silly side projects and novelties.

PC Game Pass poses an interesting problem though. For many members of this forum, there's less incentive to buy the new Xbox, as most (if not all) exclusives will launch on Game Pass on PC.

Any good exclusives coming for the PS4 I know about Death Stranding after that I don't think their is much apart from TLOU's 2 which I have a feeling will be a PS5 game at this rate if your not gonna play your PS4 or PS4 pro after Death Stranding much it might be a good idea to sell it because when the new consoles come out you wont get anything for it.

The PS3 is when Sony really started to hammer home first party exclusives and started to catch MS and I believe in the end actually sell more PS3 consoles than Xbox 360's (numbers are very close) that's when this whole "Sony have better 1st party titles than MS" thing started...

If you have the PC that's mega and all super powerful!!1111

Then the only console you would really consider at launch is the PS5 for it's potential exclusives, if that's not the case then your argument in this thread does make you look like that which you believe you are not.

Most people I know bought this generation console purely down to which one their mates were buying. Looking at a lot of internet forums I'd say this reason would make up for 50% of the decision on which to go for (The other 50% being games line up).

Still got Ghosts of Tsushima & TLOU2 for 2020, I suspect they'll both be the last major games this gen an effectively be cross-gen releases just like TLOU1 was for PS3/PS4. TLOU1 came out what 4 months before the PS4? And well after it had been fully revealed, I think the same again. TLOU2 June/July 2020, PS5 Nov 2020.

That's my take too. Especially early on. Arguably, as of the end of 2014, Xbox had the far better line-up of games. Yet the PS4 outsold it 3:2. From then onward, the online gaming effect was exponential; if 6 of your mates had a PS4, and 4 had an Xbox One, you'd be more likely to buy the PS4. Then the next person had 7 mates with a PS4, and 4 with an Xbox One, and on the effect went. On top of this, Xbox had an exclusive games drought from 2015 onward, due to a hefty number of cancelled projects.

The simple fact is that MS have had 3 generations of consoles now and never out sold Sony. They know this that is why the are saying they don’t care how many consoles they sell now and bringing their games to PC.
