Howdo,

I'm currently on an NC10, it's aging, the resolution is low and it's a bit underpowered. Other than that it's perfect for me, it's sturdy, keyboard is the best I've ever used, battery lasts for 6 hours etc.

Last time I checked, there were new CPUs in the pipeline from Intel and AMD, I've had a quick google but it's not the same as a good forum discussion, so let's get one going!

I ideally want a resolution of at least 1280 wide, preferably more like 1366, 12" screen, dual core with 2gb RAM, 10 hour battery and a keyboard at least as good as the NC10 one. What are the options so far?

I don't really care whether it's AMD or Intel, just the one that gives the best balance of power usage, speed and cost.

After the train ride I just had, I've decided I also want 3G. Is this ever going to come about? I hate having to have dongles hanging out of my kit.

I've got two netbooks, an NC10 like you and a lenovo S10-3t using the newer NM10 + N4xx CPUs. Both came with 1GB of ram and i moved the 2GB stick from the NC10 to the S10-3t. I also have an X25-M in the S10-3t. It's sad to say but I much prefer the NC10. Ok it's slower at boot, but it feels just as fast as the S10-3t, i hardly use the touchscreen and the battery (lasts about 5hrs instead of 7+) but that's about it.

I honestly wouldn't really bother with an upgrade at least not for current gen atom CPUs. I would wait for 32nm atom CPUs (oak trail + medfield based on lincroft tech).

For AMD stuff, i don't really know enough to advise you. Hopefully they'll stop limiting netbooks to the 1024*600 resolution, that's the only thing wrong with these little machines!

AMD Fusion is a great platform, but it's still early. Prices aren't very competitive. If you can hold on until Q2, we should see more of them and cheaper. I'm sure Samsung will pick it up, as well as Asus and MSI.

The other option is the Asus 1215N, also pricey. Or a 13'' CULV like the UL30A, 3810TG, or T130 with dual-core.

I will be waiting until at least Q2. I didn't know that new Atoms were in the pipeline. Hmm, lots to think about. What I really want is a 13" Macbook Pro, but that's both too expensive and unneeded.

Righteo guys, I've been researching. Looks like an MSI X-Slim X360 would be just the ticket, apart from I can't find anywhere in the world that sells it!

By the time the netbooks with the new Atom/Fusion chips are out, I'll have the funds for a Macbook.
